"He lapped the 3.4-mile circuit in 1m08.777s"

For a moment I thought NASCAR could then very well challenge F1 speedwise, but according to Forix Watkins Glen is 2.45 miles which seems more plausible.

There's an error in the 2013 form article: http://www.autosport...t.php/id/109254

Ricciardo's qually position improvement is indicated as a negative, whereas everyone else who has improved got theirs marked as positive. Otherwise, was an interesting - if basic - read. Good to see it as a freebie.

Many drivers still rate Spa as one of the most challenging on the calendar even though Eau Rouge is now longer a challenge.

"Both Harvick's pursuers had to fight back from pit delays. Busch was infuriated by a speeding penalty, while Johnson was erroneously held by an official suspecting a lugnut issue at his second stop and then later had a problem with his Hendrick Chevrolet's on-board jack."

One thing I've never seen in NASCAR is an on-board jack, hence the crew guy known as the 'jackman' who raises the car using a (rather expensive!) trolley jack/floor jack.

"After the safety car, Vettel was on brand new medium tyres while the cars right behind him that had not stopped were all on well-used super softs that they had started the race on."

Wrong on both accounts.

Vettel wasn't on brand new tyres (he had pitted for tyres on lap 17, the SC period started on lap 25) and the cars right behind had already changed their tyres (on lap 14-15). And they were on mediums as well.

48h after publishing clearly erroneous report, it still hasn't been corrected. The only logical explanation for this is that Jonathan Noble is watching the same races from which Edd Straw draws post-race ratings.

And it's still there with its mistakes, though they've changed Vettel's "brand new medium tyres" by "relatively new medium tyres". The article is now (?) by Dan Cross and Jonathan Noble.

Interestingly you can't find it anymore on the search page of articles by Jonathan http://www.autosport...esc&s=timestamp and you can't fin the article by other index pages like http://plus.autosport.com/ anymore either  :D

JR Hildebrand is listed at Panther-Chevy when it's a Herta-Honda. Servia is listed as Panther DRR when it's just Panther, DRR not having done any races since Indianapolis. You've got Tagliani in an Andretti-Chevy which he has never driven, and is in fact in Franchitti's Ganassi-Honda.

Overall an excellent report by Mark Hughes but with strange mistake: "After an iffy start off the line – with Vettel sprinting away up front from the two Mercedes and Felipe Massa's fast-starting Ferrari – Webber, in fifth, had Fernando Alonso to his outside as they approached Turn 1.

The corner was Webber's, but he chose to take a lot of inside kerb – too much, as it turned out."

It was Raikkonen, not Alonso who was at the outside of Mark at turn 1 after the start, and it was with Raikkonen that he had the initial contact. As a result the contact with Alonso came immediately after that.

"On Friday morning the team published an interview with chairman Gerard Lopez on its website, in which Lopez offered fulsome praise for Raikkonen and played down recent incidents."

Bolding mine. At best, fulsome is an ambiguous word. At worst, misleading http://www.oxforddic...english/fulsome http://www.dailywrit...limentary-word/

Both meaning could fit here, although the context suggests we're being asked to think the praise from Lopez is genuine. For what its worth, my first instinct when I see the word 'fulsome' used is the negative connotation. I think its best avoided all round, really.

There has been an ongoing problem with the news articles about Ferrari practice/quali/race comments for many weeks (edit: dimnit posted several earlier cases further up). See the latest one here: http://www.autosport...t.php/id/111041

Errors in red, they occur for every Ferrari person in every such article I've seen (or remember) in recent weeks:

Fernando Alonso - 12th/8th: "Compared to other Fridays, today Fernando Alonso: we were a bit less competitive than usual and now we need to work out if that is down to the fact that the track characteristics do not suit our car, or if it's a question of set-up. The tyres work better here than in India, where they suffered a lot from blistering in the fast corners, while here they are better, especially at night when the temperature drops. Unfortunately, in performance terms, we are behind our rivals for second place in the Constructors' classification. Compared to the start of the year, they have improved and will be difficult to beat, but tomorrow we will make some changes and will do our utmost because we absolutely don't want to give up the fight".

Felipe Massa - 17th/10th: "Today we got through the entire prog Felipe Massa ramme we had planned for this day, concentrating on set-up and the behaviour of the two Pirelli compounds. At the moment, I am not very pleased with the car's behaviour, as we are not as competitive as I'd expected to be. On this track, we found ourselves running in daytime in the sunshine, with very high temperatures, with the conditions changing completely in the evening and in this situation, it's not easy to understand which direction to go in. Now we will try and work out how to improve the car's performance for tomorrow's qualifying, which we know won't be easy, but we'll give it our best shot".

Pat Fry: "As far as the work programme was concern Pat Fry ed, this was a Friday like any other, but when it comes to the results it was rather complicated. We had a few small aerodynamic components to try and the analysis crossed over the performance of both cars, which provided enough data to choose the best configuration for the race. Here, in order to establish the best set-up, you have to take into consideration the changing track conditions between the first and second sessions. In both of them, we struggled to find the right grip level, especially on the Medium compound. In the late afternoon, the situation got better and we worked on the balance of the cars, but the results were not that satisfactory. The performance difference between the two compounds is very high and some cars, including ours, made up almost two seconds a lap. This unusual difference in performance from the Medium tyres clearly shows what a margin for improvement there is and that's why tonight, we will evaluate solutions better suited to giving our drivers a more competitive car".

The text of the report says "Forward Racing ran its new Yamaha-FTRs for the first time", but the results say FTR-Kawasaki.

Also in the results are riders Alvao Bautista -> Alvaro and Aleix Spargaro -> Espargaro.

I probably only noticed these errors because I was trying to find out which bikes are CRTs and which are 'factory' bikes - in some cases that is not too hard, but as Gresini has raced a factory bike and a CRT bike in recent years I am wondering if this is still the case or not - I know Redding's Gresini Honda is the Honda 'production' racer, what I don't know is whether Bautista's bike is or not as they are both described exactly the same in the results as 'Gresini Honda' (I assume Bautista's bike is not the 'production' racer)

"Sebastian Vettel became the first driver to nail eight consecutive Formula 1 wins, but in the post-race chat with his Red Bull team, he was reminded that "only Ascari had more consecutive wins". That's because in 1952-53, Alberto Ascari effectively won nine consecutive grands prix, winning every F1 race he entered from Belgium 1952 to the same race the following year.

Technically that string was interrupted after win number seven as Ascari didn't take part in the Indianapolis 500, which in those days counted towards the F1 world championship. But it was only an F1 round on paper, as none of the series regulars attended and the likes of Bill Vukovich and Sam Hanks certainly weren't among Ascari's opposition at Zandvoort a week afterwards."

"winning every F1 race he entered from Belgium 1952 to the same race the following year"? Those GPs were all run with Formula 2 cars......

"the Indianapolis 500, which in those days counted towards the F1 world championship."

As one should know there was no "F1 world championship" in those years. There was just a World Drivers Championship, consisting in 1952/53 of F2 races plus the Indy 500.

• This year Webber took five second places but no wins. The record for podiums without victories in a single season is Francois Cevert's six in 1973. Patrick Depailler matched Webber's tally of five in 1976.

Jenson Button took 10 podium places in 2004 with no wins that season.  Does Cevert's record apply to most second places rather than most podiums?
