I seem to recall that GP2 raced on grooved tyres, but I cannot recall when . 2005?

also why were they introduced and why were they replaced by slicks again in 2006? or something like that

2005, grooved.
2006 and onward, slick.

I guessing they were introduced to make the series as close as possible to f1, so the drivers could learn how the grooves are to drive. Guessing again they were scrapped because the cars were very difficult to drive and lacked grip.
