Can anyone remember watching BBC Grandstand in the 70's and seeing some kind on off road motorcycle racing in the Welsh forests. I seem to remember they raced one at a time against the clock one way through the forest roads and then turned around a did the same track in reverse. Winner was the fastest on aggregate.

Am I imagining it or was there a name for this sport, cannot find any information on it!

I vaguely remember that and thought it was somewhere near Llandovery? Thought it was enduro timed stages though? Geraint Jones?

Lots of those kind of roads where I am moving to so the SP250 should be fun!

Cheers Davis, thought I must have dreamt it.

Lucky man living near there, green lanes are getting rarer these days.

It was early 80's i think, because the bikes were single shock and they didnt break cover till 1981, apart from Yamaha

It was a hill climb that was used a few times for this event, firstly for rally cars only , then the second year it was bikes too, but their track went off to the sides and had some man made jumps put into it too. I think a few top line riders did it , Dave Thorpe and maybe Jeremy Whatley plus some other good riders of the time .

The hill was call Esgair Dyffed i think, and is part of a stage used in the RAC Rally back in the day.

Would like to see footage of that.

EDIT.

and here is some, not of the bikes though sadly
