Brilliant news. The guy deserves a second chance. Let's see whether he can match Bruno or Vitaly in FP1.

Grosjean should be in the second seat alongside Petrov next season.

Definitely would like to see Romain back in F1. I'd like to see Kubica more, but if that's not possible...

It's not like there isn't space for both in F1 anyway - even if not both in Renault.

A small sum up of his maneuvers in 2011 GP2 season. Watching turn off yours speakers please, music in backgroud really sucks ;).

I said before he was the real deal. You dont get within a few tenths of Fernando Alonso on a couple of occasions under those terrible circumstances (no experience, new to car, zero testing) without being very very talented. Was this his first time at Melbourne? Even more impressive if so.

I thought Roman was going to be rubbish. I will happily admit I was terribly wrong. It looks like he could be in for a great race tomorrow.

Oui, mes yeux ont été ouverts  (or at least I think that's correct)

I just hope Lotus can develop that car through the season so we get to see Grosjean and Raikkonen battling each other *and* the big boys at the front. We really need a change from RBR vs McLaren, and I say that as a Macca fan.

Well done Romain. It is also good to see Lotus/Renault back in the mix, and let's hope Kimi joins the party soon (so to speak).

Remember, this man was totally written off after he got crushed by Alonso in Renault (even after his impressive GP2 results). Some situations are very deceiving..

well done to Big John on his lap. Maybe now people will take the Kimi blinkers off and realise this teammate duel might be closer than they think

That was frustrating. The Renault "opportunity" in 2009 was a very difficult situation, but how could people make a final judgement on his ultimate career potential based on just that? Particularly when his pace was not too bad compared with the gap Fernando had over some other team-mates. I am glad to see his getting a proper chance. That is all you can ask for.

Second drivers under Briatore never got the chance to shine, especially against Alonso. I remember Trulli beating Alonso in 2004, and all off a sudden, Trulli was being destroyed by Alonso. Before that Trulli was around podium fighting positions, and all of a sudden he barely was able to get top 10's, that still doesn't sound right to me.

As an Englishman this is not easy for me to say, but I'm actually really pleased to finally have a Frenchman doing well in Formula 1, it's been too long...I hope he gets to be a race winner

I knew right from watching Romain dance his way through the Jerez chicane that he was going to be competitive, and he's showed that more than enough already this weekend! Great stuff!

Can't see why you find if difficult, tbh, unless you're a Daily Mail reader, but I totally agree, it's good to have a Frenchman back at the pointy end, given their major heritage in the sport.

Seriously? He had the whole of 2007 testing the Renault, Pre-season in 2008, the whole 2008 season, pre-season in 2009 and half the the season too, yet he showed little improvement.

Romain was thrown in with no testing mid season.

I've been saying since last year that Grosjean is to Renault as Hamilton was to McL and Vettel to Red Bull. Never seen a performance in GP2 like Romain last year.

There was never any doubt that post-Briatore Renault wanted him in the seat as quick as possible. It's just the financial situation was necessitating having a pay driver and a veteran previously.

What? We already know what he was capable of. Even Petrov in his first year was a substantial improvement. Piquet is now in NASCAR trucks. Go figure.

Why? He was a rookie and very very close to Alonso in qualifying.
