RESULTS - Bahrain | Australia | Malaysia | China | Spain | Monaco | Turkey | Canada | Europe | Great Britain | Germany | Hungary | Belgium | Italy | Singapore | Japan | Korea | Brazil | Abu Dhabi

-----------------------------------------------

Welcome to my fantasy F1 competition. I have looked at various F1 competitions on the internet, picked what I believe are the best elements of each and put them together into my own competition.

Below should be everything you need to know.

SETTING UP A TEAM
You have an overall budget of €110m

You must purchase
4 drivers (all from DIFFERENT teams)
1 constructor
1 engine
1 team boss
The constructor, engine and team boss must be from different teams to each other, though they can be from the same teams as your drivers.

You will score points for each element of your team based on the tables below. It is not quite as straight forward as most fantasy F1 leagues but in my view this is why it can be more rewarding for those who like to do a bit of homework first.

The most important difference to most fantasy leagues is that your drivers score differently depending on where you place them in your team. This makes tactical placement of those drivers a big part of the game i.e placing Alonso as driver 1 will get you different points than putting him as driver 2.

Also note that strictly speaking you are buying the seat, not the driver. So if you buy Adrian Sutil you are actually buying the Force India #1 seat. So if for example he moves to Ferrari mid-season you will take on his replacement at Force India ('Booo' says you). Similarly if you buy an expensive driver who drops down the grid, you will get his replacement at his old team ('Yaaaay' says you).

MID-SEASON CHANGES
You do not have to make changes, you can enter the competition and walk away from it if you wish. However, you can make FIVE changes to your original team at any point in the season. Up to THREE of these changes can be transfers. The remainder can be made up of swapping the order of the existing drivers within your team.

Each transfer out is at a cost of 10%. Selling a €17m driver will free up €15.3m to buy another driver (yes the decimal is included).

The cost of the incoming element (be it driver, engine etc..) will be determined by a new price list that will be created once the first race has been completed.

The reason for the new price list is twofold
a. Last season I ran a competition that was compromised by the unknown Brawn team being hugely under-valued (who'd a thunk it?). It became a no-brainer to bring them in after race 1 and the competition became a series of identikit Brawn teams.
b. Most fantasy competitions that have transfer markets have some sort of performance-related value fluctuation. This will be ours and it will be a one-off.

If a new team enters the competition at any point in the season they will be added to the price list and can be purchased from that point onwards.

Any changes must be made before first practice of a race weekend. After that, the change becomes active for the following race. Your team must remain legal and within budget at all times (this is regarding drivers all being from different teams and engine/constructor/boss being from different teams).

To make a change, simply private message me via the forum or email me (brianofla@gmail.com) with the details of the change. I will endevour to commit the change as soon as possible. The onus is always on you to ensure your changes are legal. If I am late making a change and it turns out to be illegal and you have no time to rectify it before the race, that is your own fault.

SCORING SYSTEM
There are 6 areas where your drivers can score points. But each driver position only scores from a subset of the 6 areas.

The 6 areas are
a
Laps completed (1pt per lap) - going out on lap 41 means you COMPLETED 40 laps.
b Finishing position* (pts detailed in POINTS TABLE below)
c Finishing higher than your starting position (10pts per position)
d Achieving a points finish (WDC pts x 2)
e Finish higher than team-mate (40pts)
f Starting position($) (pts detailed in POINTS TABLE below)

(* NOTE you do not need to be classified. Once you are not disqualified your finishing position counts even if you go out on lap 1. This goes for all references to 'finishing position' in the competition)

($) This is NOT qualifying position, it is the grid position when gearbox/engine changes & penalties are taken into account (pitlane starts may or may not affect starting position depending on when the decision was made by the team))

Your 4 drivers will be scored using the following entries from above
Driver
1
a, b, f
2 b, c, e
3 d, e, f
4 c, d, f

Driver 1 will be scored based on 'a' Laps completed, 'b' finishing position and 'f' his starting position.
Driver 2 will be scored based on 'b' finishing position, 'c' Moving up the grid compared to starting position and 'e' finishing higher than his team-mate and so on and so forth ...

The skill is in picking drivers suited to getting each type of points.

Your constructor, engine and team boss will score based on a subset of 5 scoring areas

These 5 areas are
g
Laps completed (by BOTH engines, 1pt per lap per car)
h Finishing position (only the top finisher in the team, points are detailed in POINTS TABLE below)
i Race win (20pts)
j Both cars finish (>=90% of race laps completed, 40pts scored)
k Starting position (of both cars, points detailed in POINTS TABLE below)

Each element will score from the following
Constructor
- h, i, k
Engine - g, h, j
Team boss - i, j

If a driver is disqualified from a race he will lose his race points but not his qualification points. If he is disqualified from qualifying and does not participate in the race he will obviously not get any points. All post-race penalties WILL be retrospectively fitted to the scoring. Depending on the scenario, a team's post-race disqualification may or may not result in the individual driver or drivers being disqualified. This depends on whether it is deemed the driver(s) was at fault and not the team. Any injury to a driver resulting in replacement means you take on the replacement driver.

POST RACE
The fantasy results for each race will typically be posted within 24-48 hours of the completion of the race (best endeavours). They will be in the form of an overall competition table, a form table (score based on previous 3 races) and a medal table (there's a gold, silver & bronze given out for each race).

After each race I will detail the medal winners of that race and the points they got. I will also output a table of each element (where drivers are each detailed in positions 1 to 4, their points will be in the form 1-2-3-4 where 1=the points as driver 1, 2=the points as driver 2 and so on). So it should be easy to see how you got the points that you got and where you might be lagging behind others.

POINTS TABLE
--------------------------------
| DRIVER PTS | CONSTRUCTOR/ |
| | ENGINE Pts	|
|P Qual Fin | P Qual Fin |
|1 45 105 | 1 40 60 |
|2 40	90 | 2 35 50 |
|3 35	75 | 3 33 45 |
|4 30	65 | 4 31 40 |
|5 27	55 | 5 30 35 |
|6 25	50 | 6 29 34 |
|7 24	45 | 7 28 33 |
|8 23	40 | 8 27 32 |
|9 22	35 | 9 22 27 |
|10 21	34 | 10 21 26 |
|11 20	33 | 11 18 25 |
|12 19	32 | 12 16 24 |
|13 18	31 | 13 14 23 |
|14 17	30 | 14 12 22 |
|15 16	29 | 15 11 21 |
|16 15	28 | 16 10 20 |
|17 14	27 | 17 9 19 |
|18 13	26 | 18 8 18 |
|19 12	25 | 19 7 17 |
|20 11	24 | 20 6 16 |
|21 10	23 | 21 5 15 |
|22 9	22 | 22 4 14 |
|23 8	21 | 23 3 13 |
|24 7	20 | 24 2 12 |
|25 6	19 | 25 1 11 |
|26 5	18 | 26 0 10 |
--------------------------------

So driver 1 scores from categories a, b & f.
'a' relates to laps completed. If he finishes a 70 lap race he gets 70pts.
'b' relates to finishing position. If the driver finishes 1st he will get 105pts according to the above table.
'f' relates to starting position. If he starts the race from pole position he gets 45pts.
So in total, driver 1 will have scored 70 + 100 + 45 = 215pts in that race.

Driver 4 scores from categories c, d & f.
'c' gets points for finishing higher than he started. If he started 15th and finished 5th he would have climbed 10 places x 10 = 100pts.
'd' relates to a points finish. For 5th place he would get 10 WDC points (x 2) = 20pts.
'f' is starting position. If he starts 15th he will score 16pts according to the above table.
So driver 4 would get 100 + 20 + 16 = 136pts.

It is the same story for the constructor and engine except that they use their own table above.

As is usually the case we've had 3 stragglers come in late. I'll let them in as no practice has actually taken place so no advantage has been gained. I'm noting it now and they will be added when I get home!

@ Skylark - Don't worry, the tie-breaker can be given after the event. I'll have a look for your tie-breaker email and fill it in

Sorry in advance if I missed it somewhere - but will you soon be posting the new costs for drivers, engines, team managers, et al? :smoking:

I want to do some changes in my team but I don't know exactly how can I do it. It would be nice to see the example of that changes because I lost in the rules.

You can use the original price list with the following exceptions. You can PM or email me (brianofla@gmail.com) with your changes. Remember that your 'new' team must still be legal.

DRIVER COST CHANGES
Vitantonio Liuzzi €17m (up from €15m)
Jaime Alguersuari €16m (up from €14m)
Heikki Kovalainen €14m (up from €13m)
Bruno Senna €13m (up from €11m)

CONSTRUCTOR
Force India €10m (up from €9m)
Toro Rosso €9m (up from €8m)

ENGINE
Cosworth (Lotus) €23m (up from €20m)
Mercedes (Force India) €26m (up from €23m)
Ferrari (Toro Rosso) €24m (up from €21m)

An example of a transfer
Want to sell Alonso and buy Kubica

Alonso costs €28m. Selling him gives you 28m - 10% = 25.2m.
Buy Kubica with the money 25.2 - 22 = 3.2m left in the bank for future transfers.

Or you could request to swap the positions of driver 1 and driver 3.

Or you can sell multiple elements at the same time.

I reproduce the relevant section of the rules here
you can make FIVE changes to your original team at any point in the season.

Thanks for the explanation. I see there is really difficult task to make a reasonable changes. :drunk: I'm 50th after Bahrain and can't see any transfers or swaps which could give me any benefits.

Well just to help you on your way I've had a look.

The first thing I would say is not to be too knee-jerk with any changes because it was only 1 race and form can change pretty quickly.

However, if you did want to change something, look at Bruno Senna

Bruno Senna 50 / 105 / 48 / 48

He got 105pts as driver #2 and 48pts as driver #4 - which is where you currently have him.

Looking at Kobayashi - currently your driver #2

Kamui Kobayashi 48 / 22 / 15 / 15

He got you 22pts

So from those 2 you accrued 22+48=70pts in Bahrain.

Had they been swapped you would have gotten 105+15=120pts. So that's 50 extra points putting you 46th. Not a huge jump but a decent jump considering it's effectively the same team.

You spent a lot of money on Martin Whitmarsh. If you sold him for 6m-10%=5.4m and brought in a £2m boss leaving you £3.4m you could put that £3.4m towards improving one of your drivers. So you could then sell Kobayashi for 17-10%=15.3m. Add the £3.4m making it £18.7m. You also have £1m in the bank as you only spent £109m initially. That brings it up to £19.7m. You could then bring in the likes of Sutil or Liuzzi.

So there are plenty of ways you could improve your team.

But I repeat, if I was in your shoes I would not be doing anything too drastic off the back of a solitary race.

Of course, there was a lot to do for a better result, but I'm not sure it will work in next races. I've got a feeling that most of elements from my team will give me more points after Australia or Malaysia. Bahrain was a little bit unlucky for me, as there was some unpredictable events in that race.

So the prices have only gone up? Seems to me there are some drivers who have shown a comparable degree of change as those below, only in the opposite direction.....

Yes prices have only gone up. The sole point of the fluctuation is to prevent people 'doing a Brawn' and nicking grossly under-valued elements.

If values were to go down, you have the rather silly situation where you could sell your driver and buy him immediately back for a lower fee effectively getting free money. Plus, as I said, that's not the point of the new fee.

Nobody has made any changes after Bahrain. A little surprising though probably the right decision over a long season.

Regarding the Monaco fantasy results. I am waiting to see the outcome of Mercedes' appeal against the ridiculous penalty meted out to Schumacher.

I've been wondering for several months what happened to Linksheaven - I was using it all the time, then it just disappeared one day! Do you know why?

I was going to PM but I'll respond in public so others with similar thoughts can read.

As far as I was told, the problem started when the server fell over shortly after the administrator (Roy) went on an extended break. He could not get back to get it back up and running and by the time he got back, his ISP was moaning about excessive bandwidth demands etc. He had been mulling over closing the site for a while given that it was costing him money and there were not that many of us using it, so I suppose in a way; in the end; it was kind of a convenient way for it to come to an end. We won't be seeing it back at this stage unfortunately. Which is a pity as I'd been using it for nigh on 10 years and had made some good F1-friends on it :(

Thanks for the reply Brian. It's been intriguing me for months. Yes, there was a nice, if small, group of people there. I can understand why Roy stopped running the site (although I can't understand why the site would require an excess of bandwidh, it was tiny). It's a shame, I used it all the time: it was very handy for discreetly checking F1 news at work, without having to visit loads of websites - plus there were no flashing graphics to attract anyone's attention!
