I think the F60 looks better, esp. in real life.

i've got a bit of a collection going myself, tbh the '09 mattel ferrari comes up way short in terms of detail and quality for the price, nearly £75! I bought the '09 mclarens recently, and they aren't too bad, but I still don't think the '09 carts look better than the '08 ones, although thats probably been debated at length...

If anyone's been to the Ferrari store in London, there's an awesome model of an F2007 (it might be a 2008, not sure, can't remember) on the window display. Had a hefty price tag, think it was 1:8 scale or something.

The 07/08 cars were real nice looking cars IMO. All sorts of appendages, such level of detail. Still, F1 needs to hark back to its pre-98 era of wide tracks/thinner tyres. I'm not a fan of these huge front wings, long cars and high rear wings, they're not bad, but F1 can do better than that.

I just always think to myself, F1 cars lost something from the beginning of the 98 season onwards

God why do they always insist on, modelling the early season car, the scale f60 looks so under developed and horrible compared to the final spec f60, which imo was a thing of beauty! I have Raikkonen's Spanish edition f2008 on my desk, got it not long ago, very impressed.

I have the 2007 - 2009 mclarens (2007,2009 - 1:43 2008 - 1:18) and Jenson Buttons Brawn 1:43. Its brilliant looking at the differences between the 2008/2007 cars and the 2009 cars.

I'm looking to start buying some diecast F1 cars in the near future.

Absolutely no clue where to start... what particular brands out there that are relatively affordable (i.e under $60)?

I buy minichamps models from here Diecast Ledgends It depends what scale you get (ie 1:43 around 50$ 1:18 around 100$ ) If you are getting it delivered to a US addres it will cost around 10$ shipping. :)

I would recommend them. They have excellent customer service. Most of my collection of 29 1/43 F1 cars came from them. My collection goes from Scheckter's '77 Wolf to a few from last ear.

Minichamps produce all the cars from each year in 1/43 except the Ferraris, and their models are of outstanding quality.

There are a couple of dedicated Model threads in the racing collectables section of the nostalgia forum. There is a specific F1 car thread and a 'Talk about model cars' thread. I've got a couple of 1-18 Exoto F1 models up there. A 1990 Ferrari 641/2 Carbon Fibre Test Car and a Williams FW-14B Carbon T-car and a couple of Mclaren Indy cars and other stuff. Put your your entire collection up.

There is a healthy market on ebay.co.uk too.
Type in Minichamps Formula 1 on the search and be amazed at the diversity of models offered from the current cars to the earlier legends.
I'm building up a collection with/for my 9 year old son.
Pride of place is his Jenson Button Honda RA107 Earthcar, he got to sit in the real thing at Silverstone 2008, have the framed picture with his ticket for Woodcote B.
Memories and memorabilia I hope he will treasure.
I have lots of info if anyone needs help!
Best Wishes to you all!!
2 weeks to Bahrain and the opener for 2010
Which will be this years must have models?

I can just imagine my girlfriends face if I started buying miniature models of F1 cars...My house or should I say the house she has designed, would make a minimalist feel agoraphobic and a bookshelf full of these bad boys would certainly be a free ticket for me to move out. :p

It gets a bit addictive....I started a collection of 1:18 mclaren's a few months ago and I've been adding a car or two a week:

I'm sure if I ever really screw up, the first thing my girlfriend will do is make a beeline for it and throw the whole thing over......!

Thats a mighty impressive collection you have there mate! Makes you realise how little the color scheme has changed since 06, to the naked non F1 fan, you could say they all just look the same! haha

Yip that F10 model does look pretty sweet! Now heres my question, why on earth have Hot Wheels, decided to put the barcode on the car this year, they havnt done that for many years, and as far as i was aware, the barcode isnt allowed to be replicated on any team merchandise, thats why you dont see it on the official team t-shirts you can buy in the shops. Every year the perfectionist collectors who like there models to be exactly like the real thing, often have to apply there own barcode decals to the scale car. Perhaps Hot Wheels knows more than us and maybe this truly is the final year of the barcode and thought stuff it, we will stick it on this year, because it wont be there ever again

Barcode model looks so much better!
Minichamps models are much better than the freezerwheel versions!
But nowaday's only certain teams are made by certain brands.
The difference between a similair team car from Minichamps and freezerwheels is very easily to see.
McLaren was made by both and so was Jaguar F1, for a while, the difference was Huge and the price diffence was nought!

You should all check out the Amalgam car models, (especially as my friend makes them.) Not cheap certainly, but I did see ITV give one away as a weekly phone in prize a few years ago. I have to say that their website is rubbish, and doesn't seem to contain a link to the F1 models anywhere.

They make very expensive and incredibly accurate F1 handmade models at 1/8. They tend to cost a few grand each, which is why many people might not have heard of them.

I have quite a few including a signed Alonso 1/18th Renault, James Hunt 's M23 and the Lewis 2008 championship winning Brazil car.
My current favourite though is this 1/18th MP4/2b made by Solido from France and part of it's Alain Prost collection. It's a super model and really captures the swoopy lines of the car well and the best bit is it was only £25 which for the detail in it is a real bargain compared to a Minichamps or Mattel!
Nice memories for me as well as I was 15 years old and at Brands Hatch (sitting at Clearways) for the European GP on the day that Alain won his first WC in this car.

And the wheels don't even go around. Something that I always tease him about. The workshop where they used to be made is just around the corner of my house.

Minichamps did have a go at bigger scale models which were very good value at issue.
They did do a Lotus Senna (portugese GP?) not so very long ago.
