Thanks to all of the information supplied by you lot, I seem to be updating my website more and more frequently. At least one of you has expressed an interest in a list of updates, and perhaps this is the best place to do this - if not, tell me and I'll stop!

As from today (08:00 GMT), the updates are:-

The following new tracks have been added:
Beverly Hills/Los Angeles Speedway (no map)
Bottomless Lakes (map)
Oswego Speedway (info)
Peeble Beech (map)
Lake Tahoe (map)
Reno (map)
Yosemite Motor Speedway (map)
Also added to the list (no info on tracks) were Trenton & Langhorne.

The following tracks have been updated:
Autopolis (aerial picture)
Bremgarten (road map added)
Estoril (maps showing recent incremental changes added)
Coleraine/North West 200 (new map added)
Palm Springs (new map added)
Silverstone (1951 Club map added)
Trois Rivieres (new map added)
Valencia (new map added)

Please also note that there was a big track update last week.

After spending hours going through your pages, I realized that I was dealing with the best statistical site. This is at the same time a relief to me because now I don't have to do what I had planned to do. It's already there at Darren's home page and now I have more time for my other projects.

That's the point, Hans!

Although, there are some more excellent pre-war (!)statistical sites - Quintin's, Leif's 'Golden era' and also Martin Kreicj's famous sportscar-site come to mind - Darren's is really something special! BTW, looks like Martin will join us soon!

To the incorrect things: there are of course, as on every site, but not so many. As I can help a little, I also will do, according in time with my newly started year-by-year account.

Darren, doesn't matter where you post your latest updates, if you only do it. A little more help for us 'customers' could also be the date of the latest update at the bottom of every results page.

Let me say it in two words: Thanks, Darren!

That would definitely help, but maybe you could even put the date of the latest update at the top of each page. Thus you could tell at a glance if it's worth to check the data.

And yes, you're website is *brill*!!!

Another small update, this time in the non-championship Grand Prix section.

1956 - Updated the 24th June race at Aintree to be Aintree 100 rather than 200. The 200 was earlier in the year.
1952 - Updated West Essec F2 race. It was at Boreham, not Snetterton.

I won't miss this chance to express my gratitude to this GREAT man!
Your job is really fantastic.
Personally I owe you a lot.
Thanks to your World Track Database I nearly doubled my "collection" and could find lots of important classic circuits I knew about but couldn't find any trace of it before.
On top of all; I owe you the fact of being sharing my passion about racing history here in The Nostalgia Forum.

Thanks, Darren :)

Darren, you wouldn't happen to have another map of the modern Clermont-Ferrand circuit? Everytime I go to see it, no matter what browser I use, the map is always scrambled.

Hi all - I'm back from holiday, and I've posted some new updates. JHope - a new Charade map is on its way shortly.

Firstly, I have finished updating all of the F1 driver career histories. Apart from some cosmetic changes, new dates of death have been added, and some more results for some drivers.

Secondly, I have a new section on http://www.silhouet....ort/people.html. This is similar to the F1 career histories, but for everyone else. It includes Indycar winners, Sportscar winners, pre-war drivers, car designers. It is nowhere near complete, and is the first draft, but I would like your feedback on it.

Regards!

Fantastic site,

Do you have any info on Longford in Tasmania, possibly the best track ever, well in Australia, (except Bathurst). Oh stuff it it was a rubbish track but do you have any info anyway.

Put the 1953 Le Mans Allard's back to being J2R's. All sources claim J2R, although John Allard claims that these were Allard JR's. He hasn't substantiated this though.

Darren,

I had my first view of your site, thanks to this thread. I was thrilled to find an actual map of Riverside International Raceway!

I know I will be spending much time there in the future and will recommend it to many people.

Thanks for your significant effort in developing and maintaining the site.

A brief history of the site.

Established in 1994, GEL Motorsport Information started out as the Motorsport Information page based at the University of Bath. It started out with a couple of track maps at the suggestion of someone on Rec.autos.sport.f1 (in the days when there were so few e-mails you could read everything on it every day), plus the BBC Ceefax news I had stored on disk from the days when I owned a BBC B Microcomputer (a non-IBM based home computer). But ideas started to fizzle around in my head, and in Easter 1995 or so I added the F1 driver career section, blasting it out following the posting of my first F1 Drivers statistics on Rec.autos.sport.info. This elicited responses from the likes of Felix Muelas, and I started to delve into the world of F1 history and race results in depth.

Things grew smoothly and slowly until I went to Stuttgart for a placement year, and I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands. I took a couple of motorsport books with me, and decided to add various statistics and race results, as it would help to fill out the time. The archives were born, and on they grew. I attended a couple of DTM races, and wrote some race reports which were published on another website where for a few months I became their European motorsport “Guru”, also covering the F1 races. I still have copies of these reports lying around in the bowels of my website. I also had an enquiry from a German author writing a book about Damon Hill – she worked for RTL, and seemed to be in very dangerous territory given the Schumi mania at that time.

Facing the final year of University, my site was on a countdown to eviction from the University computers, so I searched around and requested help. I had two replies: one from Compuserve, where they would host the site but own the copyright (I downloaded the contract and read it – it seemed like a very bad idea seeing the small print), and one from Dick Moser, father of Tim Moser who races under the Silhouet Racing banner, taking in the US Motorola Cup and assorted US GT races, one in a Chamberlain Racing car. The site moved over, and grew further with the addition of the F1 race results. An earlier collaboration with Felix Muelas and the late Dennis Clayton had produced some results which I had on my hard disk, so I completed the set and put them on the web.

Over this time people had been sending me more and more track maps, and the website continued to grow. People like Barry Boor would get in contact and send me hundreds of track maps. Then in May 2000 I discovered the Nostalgia Forum of Atlas F1, and I realised how little I knew and how much there was still to cover. My website has grown faster than ever, with more and more tracks being added, of particular note being the contribution of Ray Bell and the number of Australian tracks that have been added (thanks also go to many others as well. Barry Lake, Don Capps plus numerous others who I hope I have acknowledged in this thread).

This may be of no interest at all to you, but I would like to share with you my thanks for the interest you have shown and the help given, and perhaps this short history of the page gives you some insight into where it is now, and why it is so. I greatly enjoy the discourses that are undergone here, and long may they continue. The only problem that I can foresee is the pending disk space problem I face due to my website’s size…….

A request for help: I am out of webspace! Can anyone offer me space for this sites continued expansion? As an idea, I am using over 100MB now, so I'm looking for a reasonable amount of space. I have one or two places with 5MB or so I could use, but I am hoping for one location where I could put all of the information.

Sorry for any delayed responses, but if you PM me or use the Atlas e-mail, it goes to my work address, and I am on holiday this week, and on a business trip next week......

First of all a very BIG thank you to Daniel King for giving me some webspace to expand into. I have moved some 13MB of data onto his server (the WSC results, 2001 results, plus the Race Archives (these include the pre-WW2 GP results, plus minor championship results)), but they are still linked in via the main page as normal. This has allowed me to perform a major update:-
