I think Nico's lap in Q2 must have been nothing short of magical. His Q3 time, half a second slower, shows how perfect that lap was.

Hard to understand exactly what Michael's strategy is. Assuming they went out thinking it will rain tomorrow, why save some soft tires and avoid running to get, maybe, an 8th place on the grid?

he has not saved a set of softs though. He was one of the only people of the top runners to use softs in Q1

Yes, the softs he used in Q1, he saved in Q3. Net gain: 0. He could have saved one more in Q1, and I must applaud Rosbergs Q2 effort because that simply was stunning.

I was expecting P11, so P10 is good with the option to choose tyres just before the race.

Isn't this something like the third race in a row in which he used softs in Q3, although his time would've been sufficient? Of course, he was never really safe, but still.

Q2 does not count as stunning as it was. I am just so confused as to what Schumacher was doing today.

I think Michael used all of his tires. He flat-spotted the first set he used in Q2 and changed again.

I'd go for hards in case that either a) it rains at the start or b) I estimate there's at least one SC period early in the race.. plenty of cars and drivers looking ragged so far over the weekend, also there are some guys whose contracts end tomorrow so they're going for broke, besides it's a small crowded track and even moreso with KERS and DRS...

that would mean he still has a new set of softs left.

Q1: 1 soft
Q2: 1 used soft + new soft

that´s what I noticed.

It depends how quickly it dries out. Judging by how previous rain races were managed, it could be that a lot of running will be done on a dry/drying track.

Then again, this is already a lot of ifs. We'll see what happens tomorrow and take things as they come.

FP3 Michael already behind Nico.

It'll be interesting if Michael will be able to repeat or. confirm the time he did at FP3. Hardly believe he will improve it, that rarely happened this season.

I have never seen this before. How can a driver consitently be slower on qualifying than his is on fu***ng practice

His Q2 time today was 2 tenths slower than FP3 time. I really can't fathom it. :|

I am not sure of rules; can he switch rubber, or must he stay on current set up (he has no time in one sector in Q3).

yeah man, im quite baffled. how can that be possible if the track has more rubber, unless they changed something dramatically on the car. i was hoping he could still finish above rosberg on the final standings. it still possible but will be difficult on where he is now.. oh man...

Well, maybe Slate and Mastah are right. He is simply thrashed by his teammate. Not that I think so.

but the thing is that he's trashed only on qualifying, because on all FPs he's most of the time ahead. I don't know if it is confidence, something that he changes for qualifying setup or whatever, but I think Nico is looking better than he actually is. When your team mate gets slower as the weekend goes on, it's not hard to outqualify him, tbh.

Having an option to choose primes/options might be a very good thing if the rain starts after the start. If forecast says rain in 10 minutes you take softs, if it says in 30 minutes you take mediums and then go straight to inters. Don't know, could be interesting. Or maybe he is just plain slow for whatever reason.

I think it's the other way around in that Nico is actually better than he looks at times. He hauled that Merc up into second for a time today.

It's called 'a combination of factors' and is as old as motor racing. And besides, who's to say he couldn't have a stellar race tomorrow?

"The forecast says there is a high probability for rain during the race"

"With this in mind, we have kept all of our options open for tomorrow and we had a strategic approach to qualifying today. Still we need to find out why we weren’t able to match our times from this morning. There will be a lot of data checking now, so that tomorrow it will be very different and we can attack for some points.”

WTF?

again WTF? Attack for some points.? great, another wasted time. And it will be a waste of time watching tomorrow's race.

Even if it rains, 10th position means he will lose front wing in the first corner.

If it doesn't rain, the race is f***ed up anyways, because of no extra tyres saved.

"Michael took a measured approach to Q3, in order to save a set of new tyres [for the race], and he is in a good position strategically," Brawn said.

He has to get on top of Q1, he cannot afford to use a set of softs in that session. Softs have to be for Q2 and Q3.
