Irritating to see Schumi burn a set to clear Q1, but better cautious then Raikonnen (proving how hard it is for a WC to come back and be competitive after a few years away from a single seater!)

But things are looking much better this year already, aren't they? If Schumi hadn't make that mistake he'd be only about a tenth down on Nico, thats nothing. Pleeeease get through Q2 without too much faffing and do a representative run in Q3, thats what we've been waiting for since February...

It must be softs. He improved his 1 second. I hate this when happens. Such a trivial information, yet we didn't learn it.

Second outing was waste, strategy mistake. There was 3-4 guys between him and 18th place. Webber too was behind and he didn't come out.

Wow. P4. Nicole beaten. First two corner looks scarry tomorrow, but if MS do the first lap well, he may fight for the race win:)

I feel something that I did't feel since 2006...

Bit of humble pie for Webber to eat. Been making little smart arse comments about Schumi over the last two days.

That was ****ing ridiculous, that was a P2 for Michael and you know it.

Seriously closely matched cars at the front, I'm just hoping he didn't take the best out of those tyres and that it won't affect him adversely in the race.

finally the bits and pieces are coming together. Before the start of the season I would have thought Melbourne might not be the best track for them, hope it looks even better at Sepang.
Nonetheless let´s see the race pace first tomorrow.

Nice to see schumi with his best quali in a merc. He will be starting on the dirty side. Hope he can maintain 4th into turn 1 and then take on grosjean.

MS: It's been pretty pleasant all weekend long. The car handled very well as predicted. I'm just grateful that we did a reasonable job. The guys did a great job in the factory."

That's a very good start of the season. Obviously it's only qualifying, all the work has to be done tomorrow, but still, it's pleasant to see Michael doing a very fine job in qualifying, his best ever starting grid position since his comeback. He looked pretty agressive and quick all weekend and thankfully it lasted right until the end of qualifying, which was not always the case last year. Happy with 4th, if he can take Grosjean at the start tomorrow he will be in a good position, but then again Mercedes race pace and tyre degradation is a total unknown.

It is the same for all teams. Hope for trouble free race.

It's got to be a podium at the very least tomorrow :D
Is the dream return back on track? Oh how I'd love to see the Schumi leap again! :D

just remember what alonso said on 2011 about Michael, "He will be always super class; if the car is right, he will be a contender that we will fear most."

now looks car is good , and others need to worry :)

No trolls. :)

I'm really hoping for a good result. Hopefully a clean start past grosjean and then just keep it together and for the love of god, watch out for your front wing.

Respectable placing for Michael. I am relieved that car seems to be competitive. Now tires, race, and the season starts.

Quite clear Mercedes won;t be fighting with Williams/Sauber/FI. Could Cheapracer clean up the aisle of humility, thank you.

Of course I'm pleased to see MS in 4th but It would be hypocritical of me to veer from my stance that qualifying means very little compared to race - tomorrow is a another day and it's the important one.

Mind you I don't expect Master in this thread anytime soon

Remember: Melbourne is not the strongest track of Schumi, and last year here was the weekest performance of Merc.

Who else thinks that 4th position is better than 3rd? Obviously he's on the racing line and can be positioned for much better corner entry for T1 than Grosjean. Hopefulyl he will get past him immediately so he can chase up the Mclarens.

Good stuff today. We all know Rosberg would have been close or possibly ahead on a better lap, but for the first time in a while i think Schumacher had more in reserve aswell - so at the moment at least, the fears of him slipping further back due to a tighter field are gone.

Ah right.

I remember seeing a site going along the lines of "mclaren-f1" around here somewhere, which showed laptimes and whatnot?

True. I would still class it as one of his weaker tracks though. Apart from the 4 wins. He has often struggled. Even in the Ferrari days.

But I1m worried about Herbert.

Finally, a day to smile as a Schumi fan. :-)
I think he will have a good year ( i don't expect miracles ofc ) but tbh the most important thing for me is whether this season convinces him to stay for 2013. F1 without him makes me feel like a stray dog.
OT: I think Ferrari may want to get Ross and Michael back :p

Luca di is slapping himself each morning ever since 2007 but he's too a stubborn ass to admit it.
