Seriously, for a man his age he is in very good shape. I hope I have that same drive if/when I get to that age.

Looking stronger than when he was younger - probably having to add more gym time to compensate for the age i suppose.

Let's hope for a clean and quick race - a win (or podium) PLEASE. I just hope his first podium is ontop of it, or at least on a step above Rosberg.

As long as it doesn't prove too flat, I like it. If transport didn't cost as much as the cap itself, I'd have bought it already.

Nope, it would be simply impossible to do more time in the gym than he used to, its just that he is more keen on developing muscle mass. His cardio probably isn't quite the performance it used to be but that just means instead of being alien fitness he is 'only' super-humanly fit.

Presumably if MS could have stayed near Nico until the last stop and not been caught in traffic like Button was after his slow stop MS might have had fresher tyres to be able to attack Nico towards the end. This scenario is incredibly speculative and had it happened Mercedes would have ordered their drivers to hold station.

There's nothing like shear belief after he got beaten easily in qualifying and left behind in the first stint

I would suggest that the vast majority on this thread have congratulated NR on a superb drive, commiserated over MS's misfortunes & moved on from China.

I also suggest those who linger on the subject move on as well.

One for fans only - not interested in the opinion of trolls

I was looking at the following number plates which are available 'relatively' cheaply:

MS 07 WDC
XX 07 MSC

Which would you choose?

Of course if he won another WDC i'd be pissed :rotfl:

Couldn't it be, that Merc decided to split the testing strategy, just to get as much data on the tires as possible?
At least that's what I'm hoping for, FP2 should give a clearer picture.

In contrast to old "wisdom" that FP is meaningless, this time I am inclined to read FP3 as decisive indicator for the weekend. It will be quali test, and car has to be on the front row. There is no other objective on the agenda.

No representative time today from Michael due to that moment with the Caterham.

According to patronize Schumi was a couple of tenths up on Nico on his fast lap before he aborted due to the Caterham.

Still who knows where things are, I would hope the team have been concentrating on tyre data. And Nico is always capable of pulling out a bit more in quali than he can on Friday. The relative race paces on different tyres will very interesting, if we actually get to see that this weekend!

I'm expecting a similar picture to last week. I'm hoping for the first MSC podium since his comeback, a victory would be as fabulous as it would be unexpected...

I hope it was something other than outright pace that had him more than 1 second off. I read about the fact that he got held up on the lap he posted quickest first sector but he did try once more and was only able to get to that 1+ sec difference. :-/

Unfortunately it seems like now that Merc have a fast car, Nico's going to reap most of the benefits. Gah.

OK, one best sector doesn't mean the fastest lap. You need at least 2-3 best sectors. Tyres are still worry.

Sakae,

I follow all the sessions using the "F1 2012 Timing App by Soft Pauer" on my iphone/ipad. This app provides the ability to download previous sessions, pause, rewind, forward etc. I paused at the point in question and took a screen shot and posted it. This app has a lot of features compared to the standard timing app (tyres, car position on the track etc).

If you saw the practice session you might have noticed that he was on a fast lap, but was held up by Caterham in s2 and he aborted the lap....and he didn't have any new set to waste, so he didn't go for any other try

I know all that, I was watching live. I just say that in next two sectors he could be slower than Nico. Nico middle sector was superb. S3 was not bad too. We will see tomorrow. I hope for front row.

On a similar note, The fast lap posted before the fastest lap indicates that MS was up by .2 in S1, On par in S2 and down by .2 in S3. Basically 0.017 secs faster than Nico. So I would guess that MS could have posted a similar lap time as NR in his run.

Schumi back to his old self. Stopwatch on the steering wheel that he uses to try different techniques during practice to find the optimum speed through each section.

Schumacher sets that stop-watch manually as he drives? Surely not regarding the casio watch from the Ferrari steering wheel. That's crazy. They're fiddly enough without gloves, sitting on a sofa going 0mph.
