if anything he will only get a 1 place drop imo, seems silly to pull in the SC so webber can finish the race if at that time it wasnt a race anyway

Exactly if it was ilegal its a disgrace track was green and commetators and everyone were all saying mark better be on it ect. So they were not aware of this rule either. Fantastic stuff by MS.

I doubt there is a rule for that. It's likely that he will get a 25s penalty.

If it is deemed illegal, it will be 25 seconds yes.

The commentators IMO dident even know about this rule. They were the ones getting the point across there will be a race on this last corner.

I have no idea if the rules don't allow this but i see no reason not to. By my book when the safety car goes in the pits people should start racing. I'm far as hell from being a Schumacher fan but if the move is legal i say he did a good job pulling it threw.

I hope Schumacher is classified 7th. Mercedes needs an egghead in the team that has memorized the regulations backwards and forwards so as to gently remind everyone when one of these rare rules would apply.

The Speed TV commentators were very suspicious of the pass and quoted the regulation right away.

I am shocked that the monkeys at speedtv even knew what regulations are.

Regulation makes sense only with the old format, where passing wasn't allowed until start/finish lane - but then again, under those circumstances it would be superfluous.

Anyway, great move by Schumi!

Our commentators were sure that there was a so called SC-line before the finish line, and after SC pulled it, right after the SC-line the race was back on.

If true, how was it illegal?

If it's deemed illegal they should just sent him back to P7, because it was clearly a fault of the FIA themselfs.

Did anyone actually think Schumacher was going to try something? I was expecting something to happen, when I saw the finishing classfication Schumacher ahead of Alonso, that moment was unreal but I was expecting Schumacher to fight in the last corner, amazing it actually happened :smoking:

It reminded me of Monaco 2005, Michael on Rubens and Ralf near the end.

This is embarrising for Alonso and Ferrari especially as it's Michael as well. But had it been Michael, he equally could of been embarrised.

Great drama, MS has a habit of it, always surprises.

Its very simple, the safety car didn't finish the race, it peeled into the pit lane. Racing resumed. That rule only applies if the safety car finishes i.e. crosses the start finish line.

If the BBC team are right about the "safety car line" ....then Michael's pass was pure genius.

If not, then the sly old fox hasn't lost much and it was well worth a try.

brundle on bbc just came out with a sensible argument

if webber had crashed in the last corner everyone would have overtaken him and he would not of been classified as #1

There are new regulations this year. It was a perfectly valid overtake. Get over it. Sure seems his cognitive response and reflexes are unharmed by the 3 -4 years he was away......

The very sad thing is that we have been deprived of Schumacher's presence in F1 for 3(!) years because of the silly Ferrari management decisions, when they decided to push Schumacher out of the team in order to bring in a driver not a half as good as Schumacher. That was probably one of the worst possible decisions and certainly harmed Ferrari, Schumacher, F1 and general public a lot.

Only now the things start to go the right way...

They are right. overtake is permitted right from the safety car line. From this season.

Matchett says that it was illegal.. According to him the rules state (maybe outdated) that if the car ends with the safety there is absolutely no overtaking anywhere and the positions stay the same as they were before the sfty..

The pass:

Crazy thought. If you want the race to finish under the safety car, just have it go around a few more corners and put the green flags away. :drunk:

In a strange way, whether or not Schumacher gets punished is secondary, the brilliant way he overtook Alonso is the most significant thing for me anyway! He may or may not win this verdict but he trounced Alonso and Ferrari in the psychological battle! There is no way Alonso didn't think they were racing, he was caught out (full stop)

There is no way Damon Hill will let history get in the way of a just decision (whether or not its his to make). Whatever I used to think of him back in the day (wasn't a fan), he has decent man written all over him. He is exactly the kind of guy that makes you proud to be British!

Whatever, the most funny thing for me occured when after the race Domenicalli said that they told Alonso that it will be a procession to the finish and he shouldn't be worried about those behind him. If drifting from Rascasse means that he took it easy then I have nothing to add. I suppose the stewards didn't look at Alonso's telemetry. I'd relegate Charlie Whiting to the back of the grid for giving a green flag.
One thing is for sure, Rascasse should get a name after Michael. :)

You overreact. I was half-joking. MS & Brawn are known for controversy.

I see now that he got a 20 second penalty. Unfortunately, a harsh penalty,
but the steward decision was correct. There should not be racing in the last
corner of the race when the safety car goes in.

The old rule where racing started at the next lap start was more consistent.

LOL that's a positive way of looking at it

It is what it is, I'm sure Michael will be philosophical about it because if your team says you can overtake and you do it that's where your responsibility stops.
A solid drive by Michael today and it was nice to see he still has that ruthless streak if someone gives him a bit too much room.

Schuamcher has bad luck in f1 ever since the last 2 races of 06. I know most will say its karma ect.

OZ He got shoved off the track by a spinning Alonso after an impressive start that saw him up to 4th.

MAL Car failed while running in 6th

China Damaged car causng lack of pace.

Now Monaco Team error causes loss of points.

Things can only hopefully get better but its Turkey next one of MS's least favourite tracks.
