Seeing Schumi driving one handed through the swimming pool chicane reminded me just why I became a fan of his in 1991. Awesome stuff indeed!

Worried about Grosjean though, he seems to like taking a bite out of Schumis Merc.

What a lap. That was some brilliant stuff. He still has it.

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!

And by the way this Michael's performance changes the history books a bit: only three drivers, namely Emilio Guiseppe Farina (47 years, 79 days at 1954 Argentine Grand Prix), Juan Manuel Fangio (46 years, 209 days at 1958 Argentine Grand Prix) and Sir Jack Arthur Brabham (44 years, 17 days at 1970 Spanish Grand Prix), were older when they took the pole.

Moreover today Michael has become the oldest polesitter in "modern" Formula One World Championship, which started in 1981 (as originally it was World Driver's Championship in 1950-1980). Previous record was hold by Mario Gabriele Andretti, who took pole at 1982 Italian Grand Prix being 42 years, 196 days old.

Michael's made up as much of the penalty as he could, that's for sure. I am surprised you were not following my three posts right after pole position.....?!

Schumacher got the 2nd qualifying win for MGP this year.
Not unexpected at all. It was just matter of time.
He can find a race win somewhere like Monza, Montreal or Suzuka.
BBC guys never ever forgive him he spoiled their weekend.

'some' monaco magic? This is the track where driver skills counts the most. And he beat all of them supposed way better than him drivers. Vettel, Hamilton, Raikonen, Alonso and his teammate, qualify specialist Rosberg, to make the qual stats 3 - 3 overal. That is not 'some' magic. Thats all skill and talent.

But, lets spare a thought for guys like Byron. The grapes are very sour today indeed, as Michael notches pole number 69 on his list. :)

Schumacher actually predicted pole position, starting the race sixth and then winning.......

It wasn't shown on BBC but it was aired on Sky in the post-qualifying press conference.

Well, Well done Mike!, who knows, maybe in 3 more years he can actually win a race, who knows, stranger things have happened! :drunk:

Wow... nice one this.

You nicely confirm how pathetic envy can so colour one's opinion DESPITE genuine racing experience. Sorry that you are unable to really appreciate what took place today. Maybe you should meet with Warwick and have a drink? :smoking:

A wonderful pole from Schumi and the best circuit to have done it on!!

Well done by Webber as well. It's so refreshing really after all that has happened. It's about time the critics rightfully got some of their words to chew on.

You're right!! This didn't happen to be one of 'those' no-run S3 tire session. Also, this happens to be Monaco!

Bloody nice to see Jock & Nico chuffed for him :)

Think it'll be difficult to find his pole lap today purely due to the sh*tty directing going on. I didn't even know if he was out on the track.

The pole lap is always available on formula1.com, but I don't really know from when exactly. I believe next week though.

It is special that Michael got the pole in Monaco, a track which is still considered to be the place where a driver can out drive the car and make a difference. Top marks to Webber, Rosberg and Lewis too as they put in very good performances and all of them have over the years showed pace at this track. Like Ivand said all the contenders got a shot at pole and there were no glaring tyre saving strategies as such. So I will say it again well done Michael!

On another note can anyone enlighten me who Michael referred to in the press conference when he was saying thanks to the team? Some special group of people which are close to him and with whom he sat down at the start of the week to work together for a shot at pole? I think Jock (I don't believe in the silly conspiracies blaming him for the DNFs) is a part of that unit as ever since he has joined Micheal's side of the garage his performances have been on the up.

Don´t forget that these other 8 drivers were driving the best car of the grid, the Marcedez,. No wait...

Anyway, good job by Michael, i think beeing 0.1 s faster than Rosberg is a the ultimate proof that he is the Monaco Master. Can´t think about any other driver who could do the same.

Hat's off to MS. A well deserved pole, albeit one that is negated by the grid penalty. Regardless, Mercedes look strong for tomorrow.

I guess you hear "tyre lottery" phrase, not for the first time. This is the answer for all your questions. We don't know which car is the best, there could be not pleasant surprise tomorrow. In F1 we live day by day.

I wouldn't count on that. It's going to be tough as it has always been for him since his return. All will have to come together.

I just hope that he doesn't have an incident. Where's the fingers-crossed emoticon? I could use one of those now!!! :stoned:

Just watching the BBC feed of qualifying and Coulthard was amusing. It must be quite difficult for Coulthard to witness his contemporary be the fastest in F1 at Monaco, with such such a tight grid of talent, while he's in the commentary box and otherwise driving mid-to-back of the pack in DTM. I'm sure he was taking some consolation in Schumi's lack lustre record to date. This pole must be difficult for him. I can imagine him fidgeting more and feeling his earlobe more than normal.

Coulthard's behaviour at the end of qualifying in response to Schumi's success, as well as the comments of so many fellow retired drivers like Brundle, Berger and others really call for serious success on Michael's part. I'm seriously hoping that he keeps on it and succeeds for them. They really aught to show more respect and support for his comeback. But they've so disappointingly allowed their own egos to get in the way and that should not be allowed to go unchecked.

You go Michael!! You show them!

Fassbender and he's actually born in Germany. :)

And that's Liam Cunningham with him, whom one might know from Game of Thrones - if not from one of his many other great movies.
