[...] but this track is so much bigger they won't be able to cover it in the same way. I could be wrong but I think it looks pretty borderline to me.

New Jersey GP - 4,3 km
Monaco GP - 3,3 km
Singapore GP - 5 km
Canada GP - 4,3 km

Is it just me, or is Dave talking over Vettel non-stop? Maybe it gets better, but I just couldn't watch it after a couple of minutes.

Oh my, this is classic NJ..
Seb was wonderful on Letterman tonight.
Jp

EDIT: Here it is..

Gawd Letterman is awful. Of course it's fake ignorance to spark conversation and make the audience feel smarter. Seb really is a great communicator, isn't he?

This, from Ecclestone again. IS he just stirring the s**t as usual, or is this really the case? Surely a street circuit doesn't need so much work and they have plenty of time?

But then again, the near silence about this race, compared to Austin, makes me suspicious that something is very wrong. No money maybe?

Most of Austin's 'news' was lawsuits.

Probably a wake up call for the organisers. Bernie has said many times Austin was off.
But yeah, he probably is hinting at his fee.

True, not to mention local political controversy.

Which is something I find odd about NJ. In an urban environment and in a democratic society, you would think there would be some sort of opposition, however misguided it might be, but we don't seem to have heard of any. Surely Democrats and Republicans are not united for once?

Er... it works like this:
- greens, against racing and corporations
- the parties you mentioned, dislike greens, love racing for self promotion and coporations for financing.

Expect more vocal opposition closer to the race date, IF it happens.

It's New Jersey, where the money comes from for anything is a big question mark.

I would think that someone(s) in Atlantic City probably have some money poured into it.

"No. Definitely, no."

"I'm not quite as sure as they are. "

This guy needs to look up the word definitely.

Nah, it doesn't snow that often in NJ in November.

Besides, the race would be paired with Canada. (As Valencia will allegedly be in rotation with Barcelona starting in 2013.)

Great coverage last night on New Jersey Channel 12 news of Coulthard driving the Red Bull F1 car on the streets making up the track.
Interested spectators-loving the noise and motion. Great shots of the NYC skyline. DC comments were superbly on-point. A good moment in the development of this race.
BTW, the local pro soccer team is called the Red Bulls, so the locals were excited to see the livery of the car...mega points to the team for sending a car and DC to do this.

Why does the smallest issue down in Texas generate pages of comments, while the Stealth GP in NJ attracts almost none? How about this, which seems to have gone by without anyone noticing?

Because Texas had all sorts of problems and was constantly in the news. And we had a local guy who kept an eye on these things.

I guess people have more to do in the NE than they do in Austin.

Bernie is totally right about this...look at that backdrop...this will rival Monaco as a place to bring sponsors to talk business...just imagine walking the streets of Manhattan or catching a Broadway play-then hopping on a ferry for a 10 minute ride over to the GP.
Incredible!

Normally, you would go to their website to get information. But they don't seem to have one?

Jalopnik track map

That's the most up to date picture of grandstands that I know of.

Interesting that they have 'proposed temporary platform' on the water. Hope that's done.

It's not a surprise at all that the race is under threat. What si a surprise is that they have no contract. How can the race even take place without a contract?

Same thing happened with Austin this time last year. The organisers all had a hissy fit with each other, contract was removed, organisers kissed and made up, Bernie made a new contract. I have no idea what's going on with New Jersey, but it could be a similar situation.

You are right but I think the difference is that was a year before the race was due, now it is nine months. The other difference is that I don't think Austin ever got to two days before the final deadline when the race could be included on the calendar as we are with New Jersey. Is there even time to draft a contract in 48 hours? That is aside from the matter of finding the money

What final deadline? It'll be on the calender regardless of whether or not the race is looking likely to go ahead, Bernie will only take it off in the months ahead when it's no longer feasible to arrange the race. Plenty of time yet.

The deadline is the world council meeting on Friday. Correct me if you can think of an exception but I do not know of a race which was added to the calendar following the last world council meeting where the calendar is finalised and published (that is the point of the meeting).

Yes, but it already has been added, according to the calender shown last week. Hence the "subject to confirmation".

I think we can safely say from Ecclestones comments today that the calendar shown last week was not in any way official. Even if it was an official calendar, the world council will not finalise a calendar with a race which has no money and no contract!! This means that New Jersey will be removed from the calendar on Friday which brings us back to my point that there has never been a race which has been added to the calendar after it has been finalised. The conclusion is that New Jersey has 48 hours to find the money and sign a new contract. Austin was never ever in that kind of position.

I think it is also really interesting that when bad news about the race has escaped before, the organisers have had some kind of a response but this time there is none...
Sadly I think it is  to New Jersey

Well it'd been cool to race in New Jersey I suppose, but for me, one US race is enough. They should focus on bringing the sport to France, Mexico or Argentina instead.

Let's face it, New Jersey was probably only used as a pawn with which to scare COTA into sorting their sh1t out, as this was the race that Bernie really wanted (CVC knowing that the manufacturer teams really wanted a race in the USA)

With the uphill stretch going through residential streets I never believed for a second this race would ever happen.

Ithink that is the very problem. Do they even have a website or Twitter account?
