Alonso should have never went for the 4th stop. He would have had an easy 20+ gap on Weber with 10 laps to go and would have also pressed Vettel into a tough decision.

I guess they consider 3rd a victory.

I edited the idiots part, but it does seem a podium was enough, and with Hamilton another 30 seconds or more behind...

Great drive by Alonso, and as I though Ferrari's sweetness on it's tyres really paid off with the sensible strategy today. A little bit more performance and they will be right there, but Vettel and Red Bull are going to be hard to catch in the championships.

Vettel stretched his stints like no other and had a lot of pace in hand compared to ALO and WEB. The Red Bull is the faster by a sensible margin, which further highlights Alonso's great effort.

Last laps on hards could be abismal compared to webbers. I think it was a good strategy today.

Didn't see much Alonso on the tv broadcast. Any of you guys care to resume his race?

Start/pit stop strategy/any overtaking? Impressive third, but what was behind it?

Rookie mistake by Alonso not to jump out of his F150 and onto the magical unicorn during the last pitstop. This "lost opportunity" will teach him for not achieving the impossible :smoking:

Yeah...lost opportunity on leaving those two rockets in the garage and not installing in them on Alonso's car for the race. :rotfl:

Red Bull is untouchable.

Solid strategy, competitive tyre wear, relentless race craft and the track position to not comprise any of the aforementioned.
Things are always a lot easier the further from the midfield pack you get.

Yeah, I thought that the broadcast was same on all channels/countries, but here in Brazil they showed just Schumacher, Rosberg, Hamilton and Massa. Ferrari pit stops and Red Bull dominance was featured as well, but that is about it.

I'm imagining same kind of a race as Rosberg had, but with better machinery then.

I will say what I said in Ferrari thread.

In the first stint of primes ALonso was faster than Webber. In the second Alonso had used tyres(he used 2 is Q1) where Webber had new tyres and this made the difference.

Nevertheless it was a brillian weeknd for him. Fighting with the Bulls when others were 40 seconds behind.

it was about time...

great to see him look happy (even with 3rd) after the race... that joy will bring some good hope and energy back to maranello. Ferrari can only go up now... the car has good pace.. always showed glimpses of it during the races. they are not far.. if they manage to improve quali without compromising race speed....

Maybe with a great start he could get even higher on the podium than today and overcome the Ferrari's weak performance when on low fuel (qualifying).

I thought Vettel was the driver of the day, his race was perfect, but Alonso was right up there.

Don´t worry, it´s normal to think that the rest of the World are fanatic idiots too when you are used to have that kind aroud you all day.

Well done, Alonso, driver of the day  .

Alonso + normal start = Podium ... Just what Ferrari needed, though it was uneven. They have to improve the pitstops. Every effort Massa did to overtake was offset by slow pitstops.

And regarding the car, if in Barcelona the gap is not much closer to the Red Bulls, I would use the car to start working in aerodynamic upgrades for the F2012 until the windtunnel is repaired.

But you need an excellent wind tunnel for better aero upgrades! I haven't heard of any regulation changes for 2012 so any improvements for the F150 will benefit both this years and next years car hence they just have to go for the WDC this year.
Outstanding progress from the 1st 3 races by Alonso and Ferrari with Alonso punching above his weight in Turkey

 I mean like using practice sessions to try small aerodynamic upgrades designed with the wind tunnel they have now, but thinking on next season's car.

Sure, if it can work in both designs much better :) (and only IF we are far from RB in Barcelona. I really hope that is not the case).

Outstanding progress from the 1st 3 races by Alonso and Ferrari with Alonso punching above his weight in Turkey

His starts have made all the difference, I think. The only mistake he has made so far is clipping his front wing. His pace has been quite good, except for China (but he had no tires after battling Schumacher for too long after a low piststop and a malfunctioning DRS). The same goes for qualifying. The truth is that I would be surprise if we can keep this level. But let's hope!

Alonso drove really great today, I wasn't expecting him up there. Certainly a drive worthy of his name!!!

The thing I liked the most about it is that, He actually took points away from Hamilton and the rest of Vettel's closest rivals keeping the status quo behind Vettel for the points Championship!!

Yep, if Vettel wins a race or two more he will probably be in a Button 2009. position where even if he has problems in second half of championship he could still retain his lead due to Ferrari and McLaren (and possibly Mercedes) biting each other off.

Alonso did drive a great race, but he really does have to improve his starts. He was within a biscuit of getting passed by Button off the start and was fortunate that Lewis made the mistake that he did or he would have finished the first laop 5th - and I think the podium would have been tougher top achieve had that been the case. It's not a criticism of his race - he did a fantastic job - but his starts have been suspect this year.

Clearly inferior car? Where did you get that from? Ah, I see, because Alonso didnt win with a healthy margin he must have had a clearly inferior car. Meanwhile in the real world, everybody else saw that the gap between Ferrari and Red Bull in racepace was practically non-existent.

Well, "fantastic job" may be a bit of overstatement, he "did what he was supposed to do" would be more accurate.

Yeah, if you finnish 3rd in a race, you are most likely to be the only one who had troubled 1st and 2nd place drivers, no? With Ferraris race-pace which was about equal to Red Bull, did you expect anything less? Just a slight reminder: in previous race, Hamilton didnt just made Red Bulls work for it... he actually beat both of them. So it´s actually possible to beat those Red Bulls... if the driver is up to it.
