This cap is actually coming from Nicky Hayden who presented it when he joined Ducati (WROOM 2009). (http://motogpworld.n...yden-stoner.jpg). Probably Kimi liked it and he started to wear such a cap in 2009 as well. :)

Methinks this culture of flat-brimmed caps in euro-centric motorsports could've been pioneered by none other than Nicky Hayden (or at least, he's one of the first few to start using it).

He's been wearing those since his Honda days, and it carried over when he came over to the red team in 09. Kimi, being the usual deviant that he is, followed suit. Now it's Fernando's turn. Kimi, in turn, along with Ken Block, "brought" it over to the WRC, being the "extreme" figures that they are portrayed.

Now, straight-shooting Americans such as Spies and Edwards don't seem to subscibe to the flat brim theory.

And that, as they say, is how the flat-brim came about.

Free practice Alonso went into this year in Monaco on time in the same way as last year, had the fastest pace, although last year the last exercises crashed. Qualifying fourth-place Alonso is a safe and familiar, but the investment is probably a minor disappointment for the Ferrari team, but I thought something like this.

Not bad qualifying, Fernando said that they fuelled the car to run all the Q3 without refuelling so he did his fastest time with some fuel, probably he expected to burn more fuel before the last attack. Anyway, if he finish 4th we can be happy.

At the end of the day another let down, nearly 1 second of pole time. Podium might be possible tomorrow but it's becoming pretty clear that the contest is now who can finish second in the WDC. Vettel is just strolling to the title.

Alonso "No chance for pole" but he thinks maybe p2 or p3 would have been possible, without the red flag.

fernando probably doesnt know that Lewis cut the corner, when he did his fastest lap.

that corner cutting wasnt representative, as alonso also meant,
the red flag has reshuffled the pack

what do you mea? that it wouldnt have given that much time?

he is right. i believe like the team, that a 1st row could have been possible.

no, i mean that without the red flag there would be a totaly new situation,
which means that ham would have had more than one lap to qualify and i dont think that ham would have cutted the chicane in all the laps and that mclaren (ham) had probably the speed to be on pole.

oh okay. i dont think they would have beaten Sebastien.

so, say all the ruckus didnt happen, the grid maybe like this?

1. Hamilton
2. Vettel
3. Alonso
4. Button
5. Webber

yea, i wish it was a normal quali session...

Maybe Alonso has a chance tomorrow, at least if he gets a good start. There is a very high chance of a safety car so luck will also play a role.

Good work by Fred to use Hamilton against Vettel in the battle of mind games.

He knows Lewis wont mind the comments, but it will bug Vettel somewhat

I don't think F1 drivers are that mentally fragile. Vettel could see that Alonso made a very valid statement. Hamilton did look to have the pace for pole. I don't think that comment would bug Vettel at all. If anything, it'd make him feel even better knowing that his only threat has been obliterated and down in P9.

Alonso drove a pretty good race in second place and I start to repeat after I no longer believed that he would pass over Vettel, but it was Fernando, only one second-place nothing else because the work must continue to do more throughout the Ferrari team.

Great race, strong second place, but yet more ground lost to Vettel. Terribly unlucky with the red flag, probably could have won this race with Button second. So kind of bitter-sweet feeling...

He had a great race.
But the disappointment was very evident in his face at the post race interview.

Vettel got lucky. This race should had been Alonso's.
