I agree. The season is very long (too long imho, not because of Alonso but I just generally don't like to have so many GPs. It devalues F1 for me.)

Why don't you just watch half of them? ;)

+1
If every tabloidesque media outlet is made to pay children in need funds for every fake rumor they've fabricated on Alonso, this world will be a much better place.

What a way to protect your privacy while doing something good for others.

They showed Alonso on TV in Montreal filling up a driver's car at a Shell gas station. Apparently, it was part of a PR event in behalf of Shell.

Pretty funny... and then he got swarmed by journalists after the lucky customer left the station.

When these guys get paid 15 million or however much to race in a year, it's a good reminder that about 1 million is to race, the other 14 million to agree to do PR stuff like this. It's not an easy job.

Bullshit

It's no bullshit at all. The high wages are only possible because of the heavy involvement of sponsors in F1. Sponsors, naturally, would not put up with such figures for nothing. Considering that the drivers are the most media-exposed people in each and every team, the sponsors naturally expect them to do their best to promote the brands that pay their wages. That's the way it works - for a sponsor, the PR is equally if not more important than outright results on the track.

I don't know if Alonso would like the music. He always says that his favourite group is Red Hot Chili Peppers... which I have always found strange. A bit like if they asked Raquel del Rosario who his favourite F1 driver is and she said she liked cool drivers, and so Raikkonen is his fav. :rotfl: Oh, Fernando, always speaking his mind. I suppose some nights he sleeps on the sofa...

Care to explain your eloquent comment?

It's a well known fact that one of the reasons Kimi was so dissatisfied with F1 was the PR and Schumachr has said the same. The amount of PR these guys do is massive and a lot of it extremely tedious. There is no doubt that a lot of the money they earn is for putting up with silly games, stunts and photo shoots for the sponsors.

The most important quality of Alonso is that he can handle pressure and keeps focussed on getting the job done when it really matters and something special is needed (as Vettel can too). He just delivers it.

Hamilton definitely lacks that quality as he showed in 2007 (lost the championship because he threw it away the last races under pressure), 2008 (almost threw the title away under pressure against Massa of all drivers...), 2010 (crashing here and there, making mistakes in corners going off track/wide letting other championship contenders pass, under pressure, throwing his title chances away) and recent races too, exact same thing. Webber has that too.

Alonso has never faltered that way under pressure, although some might say him being stuck behind Petrov, losing the championship that way, would be one of those times.

Alonso can still win this championship, Ferrari needs to step up to the plate, Alonso does everything already.

Schumacher had an edge over him in 2006, remember China 2006, or at Hungaroring at Free Practice with Doornboos.

About the worst example possible. Schumacher hadn't got anything to do with the Dornboos incident, yet he himself lost his nerve behind Alonso in another practice
session and overtook under yellows, resulting in a grid penalty. That at a time where he really could have maximized an advantage over Alonso who already had a similar penalty over the Dornboos thing applied earlier.

It was about Alonso and pressure. And with Doornboos, he failed under pressure.

Like at Magny Cours in Q1 or Q2 with Schumacher..

MS fan fantasies. IMO it was totally unrelated to the WDC fight. Especially as Alonso has proven to do that stuff even in testings sessions, with nothing at all at stake... :p

Interesting that you won't comment about the pressure mistake I mentioned from that other guy over the same weekend. Not to speak of his erratic race performance on sunday...

I cannot comment about Magny Cours from the top of my head, but I cannot understand which pressure was Alonso under in his incident with Doornbos? Both in Hungary and Turkey they were on practice sessions, actually the Turkey one once the session had finished and they were going back to the pits, and if anything it was more of a hot-head reaction from Alonso in the former, and from Doornbos in the latter. Doornbos was a test driver at the time, Alonso the reigning WDC - I doubt that Alonso was feeling particularly under pressure in those confrontations.

Nevertheless, Ferrari knowing Raikkonens aversion to PR hired him, and paid him handsomely, one could legitimately ask, who was the more foolish.

I would not be surprised if Vettel or Hamilton (specially Vettel) gets the pole after all given that the RB7 and the MP4-26 have looked way faster than the F150 in qualifying this year, but let's wait and see.

I don't think pole matters much here, although it's never bad to be at the front. This is a race I would love to see Alonso win and I think it's his best chance this year. But I also think Vettel or either of the Macs could win it and if it rains all bets are off.
