Good job from LaSexta, this interview could be really interesting. Hope is not just the usual dull praising words between drivers.

I think Fernando is the best Monza specialist on the grid, but I don't think he has the car to win this weekend, sadly. Considering all aspects (tyre warming, qualifying, speed trap, mechanical grip, etc) Mclaren and especially Red Bull are clearly superior although I would love if I am proven wrong :p

A podium is still possible, but it will require a magnificent drive by him.

I think alonso does have a chance to win. I expect ferrari to go for a low downforce configuration which despite being bad for qualifying, will pay off nicely during the race. I think Mclaren will do the opposite and go with a high downforce config which will pay off during qualifying but will result in slow straight line speed during the race so expect to see alonso to get by the mclarens during the race. As for redbull..well they just look good everywhere and i think they will be extremely tough to beat on sunday. My only concern is will ferrari be able to get the mediums up to temerature. That will be the key for them. If they can, i expect to see ferrari challenge for a podium. If not, then we will struggle badly.

Now that I think about it his comments may be some sort of sandbagging and mind games so typical from him inherited from his love for playing cards.

I don't think Ferrari has the car for the win this weekend, but it might not matter. Just like Lewis always manages to gain huge time through the final chicane in Canada, Fernando is supreme through Parabolica. He's not a favourite, but I think it would be very foolish to write off Alonso.

Alonso happy with possibilities!

"It's good, obviously we didn't find the right balance or the right speed all weekend," Alonso told the BBC. "Yesterday we struggled a little bit with the balance of the car and the top speed. Today, we're still lacking a little bit of braking stability, a little bit of top speed on the straights. So we were never happy with the balance and that's the negative thing of the weekend so far because we don't have total confidence in the car.

"But the positive thing is the result. I think fourth opens up a big possibility for tomorrow because at the start you are in a very good position, you will be fighting for the first places for the first couple of laps. So I think it opens up a little bit of possibility of the podium tomorrow, which regarding how the weekend went so far is very good news."

Fernando Alonso: “Fourth place is possibly my most common result in qualifying this season, so I definitely cannot be surprised at this performance. Usually, in the race we go better than in qualifying, therefore this grid position could provide the basis for a podium finish, which is our realistic target for tomorrow afternoon. Fighting for the win? I think it will be very difficult, even if this year’s races have often thrown up surprises. I will try to make up some places at the start, which could make the race even more interesting.

Yeah, because Kimi would have won this one hands down... give us a break. And don't worry about Santander, they are delighted with their estimated ROI so far.

I am afraid that there is nothing constructive or valid for an interesting discussion coming from your post, and I am afraid that it is not the first time that happens.

Don't reply to this guy, let's keep this thread clean.

About the slipstream game at the end with Felipe.

"We know how important slipstreaming is in Monza so we both tried to find someone always. We were trying to find Felipe one so in the outlap both cars were slowing down trying to let someone pass. So it was a nice game, and a funny game from the outlaps between us, it was good and I think everyone gets the tow in the end in Q3 apart from the first one."

Tomorrow everything is possible if the car go as well as today, let's hope for a short stint with the Medium tyre and a rocket start.

Alonso happy with possibilities!

How is he unhappy with the top speed? We're a good deal faster than Mclaren and Red Bull in qualifying. Maybe our non-DRS top speed isn't as good?

I think aiming for 2nd or 3rd may be realistic. I hope Alonso finishes 2nd in the WDC, would be a nice result taking into account the RBR superiority. :)

I just hope Alonso stays out of trouble in the first corner. There is very often a coming together between two cars at turn one and I imagine this year will be the same. A Hamilton-Vettel collision, on the other hand, would be quite nice.

Great race by Fred, now second in the WDC with clearly only the 3rd fastest car. This is probably the best season he's driven since 2006. But like everyone else says: he needs and deserves a better car.

Yup! People is going to be very desperate to critize Alonso this year, 2nd with McLaren being a bit faster and RBR sheer superiority. Not bad.

His starts have been great since he changed his clutch at Barcelona. One of his weaknesses has turned into his strength.

I think he got the best out of the car again today (as he has on many occassions this year). He just needs a better car.

Yeah - a huge improvement for Alonso, and a brilliant race. The ferrari was quite clearly the thrid best car out there, so a podium for Fernando is an exceptional result - Well done Fernando!!

Can't believe how bad that car is on Primes.
