For me its his best race this season. He is a MONSTER. Yesterday i read an interview where is said 2010 and 2011 was his best season. He is right, he is the best since two years, he was average at the start of 2010 season but after Silverstone he was fautless, and this year he is even better. An another second place with this pickup with no update (execpt the FW ) since Hungary its AMAZING.

I was an Alonso hater when he was at Renault because he was a cry baby, with no respect toward Fisichella, and his rival ( Ferrari ), at Brazil 2006 he even said that he never drive for Ferrari.. But damn he is too fast for the current field, he is more mature now than2005-2006.

IMO Alonso 2010 - 2011 is the best driver i have seen since Schumacher 97-99.

maybe the comparison is not the one i would have chosen, but it is true that alonsos performance is magical atm.

I really didn't think Fernando would have that kind of race pace but I am glad he did. Excellent race.

Ferrari needs to improve their pit stops in the off season.

Mega race from Fernando beating the faster cars driven by Button and Webber. Well ahead of Massa, gone forwards in a race again.
Also if I'm right, he's now completed the most laps of anyone this year, with Vettel dropping out early on today

Is it not conceivable that Ferrari was matching McLaren's race pace, at least on option tyres? I read all the time, how Ferrari is miles behind Red Bull and McLaren, but I don't see this being the case. The difference is minimal and in race trim on option tyres almost the same.

Amazing performance from Alonco today. Couldn't belive my eyes at first when he was matching Ham's pace. With a third best car he's 10 point short of being vice-champion. That's an achievement indeed.

Alonso's race pace was miles faster than Massa today, who couldn't even beat a Mclaren with no KERS and a Red Bull with a stupid strategy!

I was more impressed by Alonso in 2005-2006 to be honest, very quick and especially extremely consistent, never putting a foot wrong. In my opinion his performances this year have been a bit on and off, and last year there were probably some costly mistakes.

But today he's been mega, driver of the day for me, with an inferior package compared to the McLaren.

If Seb, Fernando and Lewis have semi-equal cars next year it could be one of the best title fights ever. Alonso is the most consistent and calculating driver on the grid, Lewis one of the most tenacious and talented and Vettel is simply the pole-master. These guys are titans of the sport I'de love to see them duke it out.

At the beginning of the season I wrote this:

I wish Fred all the worst, pathetic person deserves only bad things. It's such a shame we have a character like him in F1, but on the positive side with every year it's one year closer to his retirement. Fred, more di Grassis and Petrovs on your way, that will make you happy!

And I still stand by that, I hate his character, as he is sore loser, but...

But he is driving simply phenomenal! Really, that's the best display from a driver in a long, long time. Clear 3rd quickest car and yet he delivers race after race mindblowing performances outracing drivers in faster cars and annihilating his team mate. That's incredible.

If next year he can show similar form in a competetive car, he will be scary. I think all top guys are scared of thought with Fred in quick, not to mention dominant car. They know season would be over, as they stand no chance against him. Unbelievable.

Some call me troll, some call me hater, but I say things as they are. Appreciate that :).

2005-2006 saw one single error. 2010 by contrast was littered: China jump start, Monaco practice, Silverstone and Spa off the top of my head.

I def agree. Ferrari has had good/great race pace all season. Their downfall has been quali and the hard tires.

Well it is clear that Fernando and Lewis have deep respect for each other despite what has been said. Loved the hug when Lewis won.

Please, please let Lewis, Fernando and Seb have similar equipment next year. I think we are in for treat people. Add Jenson into the mix and we have a blow by blow battle.

It was an epic drive for Fernando! Absolutely spectacular. It shows his skill as a driver and is further proof that he indeed is the best driver on the grid, IMHO. The team really needs to work on pit stops. I don't think it much mattered as the pace on the hards wouldn't have been enough to stay ahead of Lewis. I hope the car is more competitive next year because if it is Alonso will have a great shot at the 2012 WDC.

Astonished by his performance today.
I´m with those saying it´s been his best season ever. Making no mistakes when you have a race winning car like in 05/06 or Vettel this year is (arguably) easy. But not doing mistakes when having to push 100% just to have a chance to get a podium is a lot harder IMO.

Avanti Fer!!!

He has a shot at 2nd in the WDC.

JB 255
FA 245
MW 233

Mark is 22 points back from JB. To come second, he would need to win with Jenson lower than 9th and Fernando lower than 5th.

In all likelihood it will be between Jenson and Fernando. 2nd in the WDC would be an amazing outcome to the 2011 season considering how much more competitive the McLaren has been.

Edit: On the downside, he could end up fifth. This will be an interesting aspect of the Brazilian GP.

Great performance again from Alonso! His endurance of great driving without the absolute best car for years and years is phenomenal!
For a moment,I thought that Alonso might be mentally crushed by the Red Bull-Vettel machine but his driving did the talking in proving that my fleeting thought was wrong!

Alonso gets better! even his english has improved along with his Italian!
