FA, yesterday:" I have dinner at engineers' and technicians' homes, I play football with them and I care about their lives. It is important to remain united. And I love to be there in Maranello, because you can always test street cars."

Funny how Kimi's fans said in the other thread that Alonso broke the armony at Ferrari. LOL

Lie, it's all because Santander, every Ferrari employee has in his contract a line like this: "You have to invite Alonso to your home, feed him and let him play with your kids".

Good to see Autosport up with a couple of articles on Fernando!

I'm glad that Ferrari appear to be less conservative this year with their new piece of kit, and, insetad, are aiming for world domination. It'd be great to have some Red Bull-like margin to the rest of the field. And I wouldn't care if there was a hail of criticism saying "Fernando isn't that good. It's just the car!"

Also good to read his comments about Kimi. I know there may be a rivalry between the fans due to how the Scuderia tossed Kimi from the team and brought in Alonso, but there is obvious respect and friendship between the drivers.

Fernando on Kimi's return:

"He's one of the drivers with the biggest talent on the grid, a world champion, a wonderful person... So it's going to be a pleasure to race alongside him."

Fernando will drive circles around Kimi next year anyway, so there is nothing wrong with being polite.

Aside from that, he hardly ever said anything really negative about another driver. They all have a lot of respect for each other, even with some 'friendly rants' here and there, to bad that certain driver fans can't have the same respect for each other.

I always love Alonso's generosity of spirit....

“I’m not bothered if Jaime is going to HRT or not,” Ferrari driver Alonso, who is not friends with Alguersuari, is quoted by Spanish reporters. “About his departure I have no strong opinion. I don’t know how he worked with the team or if they were happy with their drivers or not."

In your "Holiday Spirit", it seems you're trying to paint Alonso as an uncaring, Scrooge-like character. Let's let him finish his thought, so people have a more fullsome idea of what Alonso said about the changes at Torro Rosso. Autosport also say he was "surprised" by Jaime's removal.

"I'm probably surprised like everybody else that they have changed both drivers all of a sudden, because you usually need some consistency in a team, so replacing both is like starting from scratch and you have a tougher winter in terms of evolution and testing the car.

"But just like I was surprised about that, I was surprised about Sutil not staying and the same about other drivers.

"But I understand that Toro Rosso is like Red Bull's junior team and they have a lot of young drivers and they only have two seats at Toro Rosso. So they felt the need to change their drivers and try two youngsters. But I don't know what the situation was."

Gotta love selective quotes...

Anyway, You have to understand the background of that. Alonso was heavily criticed in Spain (almost insulted in some instances) because medias (specially laSexta) behave and assume that Alonso and Jaime have to be the best friends ever because both are Spaniards. Alonso was neutral regarding Jaime and said some good words about him initially, but It seems for certain sectors that wasn't enough.

So It is reasonable that Alonso now is a bit cold regarding Jaime. What he has to say? He said he was surprised Jaime got kicked out. He has to drop tears for Jaime, show rage, or something like that?

The truth about the cold relationship between Fernando and Jaime lays in Jaime's father, I don't know all the details, I rather not talk about it.

In a happier note.

Videos from Ferrari's X Mas party.

So cool and Awesome that they keep doing this every year just for the kids.

Exactly. He is not Jaime's babysitter just because they are both Spanish.

Thats what I like about Alonso, he does't jump on a wagon with everyone else. And he isn't surprised Jaime got dropped, he is surprised both got drop and the fans can read it how they want to.

Pretty sad news. I knew this was coming after I saw that tweet from La Sexta (which was deleted 20 min later). I've always thought it was a very interesting/special relationship they had. The way they made this official isn't very discrete, surprising.

The whole quote makes no difference to the tone - I wouldn't want him at my back in a tight situation... Bloody good driver though.

Odd. Not sure when he ever indicated that he had Alguersuari's back, or why anyone would expect him to. Were this quote about Robert Kubica or even Mark Webber, I could see your point, but as it is, it's somewhat bizarre.

Unless by 'at your back', you're implying that Alonso was somehow involved in the STR decision? But I can't imagine you're suggesting anything that silly.

Not surprised at all, so maybe this was one of the reasons to come back to Spain. Best whises for Fernando, his family and friends love him, and Ferrari and his fans love him, so that's a lot of love to fill the void left by a woman. Probably happen sometime ago, so his motiviation it's not a risk anymore, probably he can focus 100% now on F1.

Kudos to Fernando for being quiet about it, driving superbly the whole season and not doing such a drama show as some others

Their life is very very very private but there are small details now and them, with todays news, everything makes sense, starting for Alonso not wearing anymore his wedding ring at some point of this season (way before the end of the season).

Anyway, kudos to Fernando, with this bad news he has drive like a champ all year, it didn't affected his perfomance and he didn't make a show with his private life. A man inside and outside the track.

I'm afraid that you then have no clue what "an average F1 fan" is, those would struggle to even name every driver on the grid and will certainly not be found on this forum.

Not such an easy question. I am a massive F1 fan, and follow everything about the on and off track exploits of F1 drivers, but really don't care much about their personal lives. I would imagine that, as Jenson mentioned last year, you would probably lose a massive amount of speed once you have children. As a father, I can understand this. I did some crazy stuff before I had kids, and that all changes once you realise that your life is more important than just yourself. For example, people point to Massa's lack of form since his accident as due to the accident. It is also a fact that he had a Son between his good performances of 2008/2009 and 2010/2011.

That is actually something I hadn't thought of when it comes to Massa, and I think it is a very valid point. I'm due to be father myself in about two months, so I am already noticing the changes in my behaviour and thought pattern.
