And people wonder why he doesn't like the press. He has mentioned people pasting his face to pictures. He said so in Jerez to be exact.

Fernando is a good driver but as it stands he´s not near to Seb. He needs toi be way better than Seb if Ferrari should finish third in the championship. The RedBull car is a better one and so is the Macca at the moment.

How can you tell from testing whether the Ferrari isnt as good? As for your Alonso, Vettel comment i cant be bothered to respond...

Donknow how true this is because I didn't take note of Alonso's driving style prior to joining Ferrar and I haven't seen enough of him in this years car.

Windsor probably means Alonso's driving style up until 2006 at Renault on Michelins where he used to throw the car around like crazy with lightning fast changes of direction, incredible mid corner counter steering and extremely aggressive rather than following smooth lines with incremental inputs. Some said it was ugly but I say it was one of the most exciting and aggressive driving styles I've ever seen

It was certainly a pretty unique style. As an added bonus, it was driving people like Jackie Stewart crazy. :p

Stewart is stickler for smooth driving. Makes no difference to me as long as the results are achieved.

If it's true, this certainly will be another reason to watch Fernando driving this year. Maybe I'm wrong, but Winsor wrote like a 10 page long artitle about Fernandos driving styles back in 05/06.

If you haven't read it yet, you can read Peter Windsor's article about FA's driving style (dated 2005) in the next link: http://forums.autosp...p;#entry2128979

Really interesting going back to that thread and seeing people (both forum members and "experts") predict that Alonso might struggle without TC and might struggle in a car that doesn't allow his style. I think it's fair to say he's more than proved himself at being able to adapt in the last 6 years!

Alonso doesnt really have a driving style, he just does what is needed to maximise any car. Thats why he is so fast in any car and conditions, he can adapt. Only the rarest talents have that ability.

Exactly. I loved how he used to 'throw' the Renault into the curves, though, it looked spectacular. I miss that. I wish he could still do that in the Ferrari.

Not if the F2012 will still lack traction in the rear come races. I think to do such a thing Fernando would need really trust into the traction, so i'm not seeing that coming back, unless Ferrari manages to completely sort that out. I don't know much about the technical side, would that only be a question of setup work?

Hes just such a good racer. Probably the best since Schumacher. Vettel is impressing the hell out of me very quickly though. Very mature drives just like we know from Alonso.

Thats true.
If it is needed he adapts his driving style ad hoc even to a broken gear-system as he did in malaysia 2010.

Yep, very true.
And thats because in formula1 coverage just the winners are idolized or better say worshiped.
Which very often shouldnt be the case, coz in many races the winner has such a dominant car, that even driving at 90% is enough to win by a big margin.

and so such great drives a la Alonso Malaysia 2010 are tended to be forgotten.

Setup would probably alleviate the problem somewhat but I don't believe it is that simple. The rear aero still needs fine tuning but it is also true that hardly any setup work went into the car during the two tests. It was all about testing this and testing that.

I think a large part of that is because he eventually DNF'd with a couple of laps to go. Had he finished behind Massa (with whom he'd kept in touch the whole race, despite the gearbox), we'd been hearing a lot more about it, I reckon. That was probably the toughest Alonso DNF I'd witnessed (maybe more so than Fuji 07).

You're right, he is one of the bests, but the rest of your post is rubbish. No questions arise if he doesn't win this year. 2010, he should've won. Although much blame for losing can be laid squarely at the teams feet. 2011 most certainly had nothing to do with Alonso's driving skill, therefore shouldn't even be mentioned. 2012, I think he'll have a good chance to win. We will see, but everything needs to be looked at if he doesn't win. It doesn't necessarily all fall on him.

To a point you are right, it´s not all Alonsos fault. But, how many seasons can he stay with the team whitouth winning before his auora gets tainted. This year, next year, can he afford it?

Yes, to anyone who observes Alonso's driving objectively it is obvious that his skill shines through and for those that don't, do they matter?

I totally get what you're saying. I think people look back on 2010 & think about what could have been. I think people mostly blame the team for the one mistake, but of course there's more to it than that. 2011 I think people see he drove a slow car(compared to main two rivals) great & achieved the maximum.
This year of course is dependent on the car. But agree it needs to happen soon. Or heads are going to roll. I think his reputation/aurora gets tainted when he has the car to do it, doesn't & there's no doubt it's his fault. I don't see that happening although possible.

I see the point he's making. Regardless he needs to win #3 soon.

The number of world championships doesn't define how good a driver is IMO.
