And, others underestimate Ferrari and Alonso, specially MacLaren.

Fernando can win again this Sunday if the conditions are changeable.

Don't think so, this one isn't all about fast corners like Malaysia was, which suited the Ferrari.

Alonso doesn't necessarily have to win this race, just score as many points as possible. There are a few teams that are faster than Ferrari at the moment, but they don't all have the drivers or the teamwork to beat Alonso. He really just needs to keep the contenders with in reach for the next couple of races. If the Ferrari can improve enough after Barcelona, then he will still have a shot at the championship.
If the car doesn't improve enough to contend he'll still have lots to race for.
There is always next year, though this one is not done by any stretch. Win or lose, watching great drives from Alonso is still a treat.

Good job today, the pace in Q2 it really made me believe in something greater but 9th probably was the maximun or close to, also he will start from the clean side of the track, just behind Hamilton. Let's hope for a rocket start and good race pace to pick some points.

Some fans of Alonso (and Kimi) in China.

How do we know that they are Alonso/Kimi fans?
They could just well be heiki/HRT fans :drunk:

Alonso optimistic about China GP

"If we do a good enough job then we can think about winning, otherwise not. But I remain optimistic: even in 2010, we were significantly behind the best, but all the same, we got to the final race leading the world championship,"

Nando should be thrilled that Vettel and Webber will be starting no better than him - on average...and that the McLaren boys will be well within sight...as opposed to filling the front row!

He'll also be very happy that Koba, Checo and Kimi are likely to take points off of some of the RBR and McLaren drivers and that the Mercs are likely to act as ultra-quick mobile chicanes for the other guys in front.

Honestly, Ferrari's race pace shouldn't be too bad if it's cool (which it will be) and if it rains (which it might, but no guarantee).

One thing he'll have to be very carefull about, though: Grosjean! His ex-Number 2 from 2009! Grosjean will be far too close for Nando's comfort, I feel.;)

There's a pic of Alonso playing the piano on Twitter. He says best way to relax the night before a race is to play music. Is there anything this guy can't do?

Frustrating race, he was doing a great race till that mistake, after that the rest is story, the strategy didn't help much today either. Race to forget, the only possitive thing is that he is the 3rd in the WDC, not far from the 1st, the car also showed some potential at some stages of the race. Let's hope Barhein is better but he said just now that is going to be worse.

He said that Shanghai should be complicated but after that the tracks could be more suitable.

what a shame the mistake, he'd finished right behind lewis and leading the wdc

That's not for certain, he still had to pass all the 2 stoppers but without the mistake he would have had a much much better chance. It's a shame because he was driving a great race until then.

well that mistake costed him 1/2 places. ferrari was not fast enough to battle with lewis and the others in the last stint.

Don't think it cost him anything at all. He only lost 1 position but gained it gain, and ended up stuck behind Maldonado, where he was before his mistake. The car simply lacked the speed to overtake the Williams.

Not really, as Ferrari's trouble is low fuel speed. He lost a little with the mistake, but he couldn't go faster with newer tyres than the rest on old ones, because of that low fuel speed problem, so he wouldn't have been able to overtake others.

If they fix the low fuel problem (which is critical for qualyfing...) the F2012 would actually be not bad race car

Quite average race by Alonsos standards. The positive thing is that it happened on a day where no more than 6th was possible anyway, even with a perfect perfomance.

9th was the best possible result with a perfect performance today. The car had poor top speed, not the drivers fault.

I actually think that 10th was best possible result, but Alonso managed to be 9th. Grande Fernando!

He could've finished P5 without the mistake and with a better strategy.. I still don't get why he used softs in the 3rd stint and not hards...

I see this is now catching on, but if you were paying attention, the mistake cost him nothing. He ran off trying to overtake Maldonado, lost 1 position to perez which he got back with a few laps, then spent the rest of the race stuck behind Maldonado. The mistake had nothing to do with the finishing position. The problem was the strategy.

Hmm, you should try telling Alonso himself that. He seems to think that he could have taken 6th.

Because of the strategy and lack of topspeed, not because he ran off. I'm not sure why this is even being disputed when it was clear as day while watching the race.

Perhaps, at least he got some points today, won the previous one and got 5th in Australia... Which got translated to 3rd in the championship right now ahead of several drivers clearly with better cars (2 RBR, 1 Mercedes, 2 Lotus).

sort of a let down today, alonso looked to get good points and then that last stint behind the 2 stoppers and his off left a bittersweet feeling, the car looked competitive at times , maybe its a good sign that the feeling i have is that he should have gotten a better result

Alonso put some pretty hard moves on Saubers these past two races. Nothing has been handed to him.

Yes, a board member.

Despite the result I think Alonso may have a chance in the championship: today we saw Mercedes and Lotus are up there, so the more teams capable of winning, the more open is the WDC. Not so "opened" to Ferrari but for Alonso.

Bad strategy calls or pit errors like Kimi's and Schumacher's don't count, didn't you get the Alonso fanboy memo.

People keep talking about top speed and yes Ferrari suffers from a lack of it, however that wasn't what cost him positions today. It was mostly the strategy.

1 15 S. PEREZ 326.1
2 14 K. KOBAYASHI 322.8
3 16 D. RICCIARDO 320.2
4 17 J. VERGNE 319.6
5 20 H. KOVALAINEN 315.4
6 5 F. ALONSO 315.0
7 10 R. GROSJEAN 314.9

Don´t think so. If that happens, you don´t use the 6th longer gearing on the grid. It isn´t smart.

He had a decent race, mostly ruined by strategy. The team thought more cars would suffer like Kimi's car did. Didn't happen. As for Fernando's moment trying to pass the Williams, he said he spent 10 laps behind him trying to pass on the straight, even saving all the KERS and using it on the straight to get by but it wouldn't work. So he intentionally tried to pass somewhere that's not ideal. Given the condition of the car & it's performance he had to take a chance. Didn't work out for him, but it makes him no less great of a driver. Hopefully the team gives Fernando the car he deserves. If they do he will win.

LOL.
He did spend a lot of time stuck behind Maldanado but that was after we went off track.
