Good race, we are back. Strategy was not the best, but it's ok. We are back on top and that is what counts!

We are back in game, baby!

Another faultless drive. This year Alonso is the top driver in the field for me. Consistent, cool fast and all this on a car that seems to be realyl bad, if you look at his team mate.

Fernando Alonso ‏ @alo_oficial
We are half a million on Twitter!!! After only 2 months (63 days exactly ..)! 500,000 thanks! More surprises will come ..;))

Another fun fact, only two drivers scored points in every race so far, one of them is Fernando. :)

17th consecutive race in the points, Schumacher's record of 24 isn't far away anymore.

Alonso is a class act, is a dog of a car and leading the championship :D. From now on Ferrari should be pretty strong, which means that the title could be be decided between 5 drivers or so :o

One issue with that, points for 9th and 10th helped Alonso, particularly with the 9th in China :p

Just getting that over with ;)

Joint-lead in the championship after 5 grands prix. Who would have believed that?? :rotfl:

Down to your absolute brilliance and the "never say die" spirit of Ferrari! You now have a car to properly fight for the championship, with more updates coming in the next few races! Go get 'em!

With the form book all over the place this year, consistency is more important than ever, and Alonso almost always makes the best of his situation.

People rushing to make him favourite for the title are being very premature, but it does at least look like he will be in the fight, at this stage that's very positive!

It´s incredible. Last time we saw something like this was Nico and Nakajima. Massa is seriously struggling.

Alonso is the driver of the season so far.

Pretty pleased with today's result - if someone had told me on Friday that we would finish on the podium I would have thought they had gone mental, but here we are, and joint 1st in the WDC. Lets hope for a strong result in Monaco and continued improvement with the upgrades in Canada.

Today's result has renewed my sense of hope of Alonso mounting a serious challenge for the WDC, provided of course that Ferrari can continue to improve the F2012.

Alonso did a good race today. I hope the team can go on improving the car continuously for the remainder of the season. And as an Alonso fan, I find myself defending Massa for the last couple of races, but having given the drive through makes it look worse than it really is. I wish he would keep closer to Alonso on the race weekends though.

Button: Alonso is not a worry (27th March 2012)

1.5 months later:

2 Fernando Alonso Spanish Ferrari 61
6 Jenson Button British McLaren-Mercedes 45

Fernando teaching Button a lesson there, never underestimate him

I would ike not too appear as a fanboy, but I think we don't really know how good Alonso currently is. The guy is leading the championship and his team mate has a finish average position of about 12th. Many people claim tht's because of Massa, not Alonso... but really, Alonso is a different era would be already considered one of the best of all time.

I don't remember any pairing in a top team where one of the drivers is capable of running, consistently, 1 second per lap faster than his team mate (and lapping him).

And yes, Button was naive there. How can you say that with only two races in the championship and saying that about Alonso, who, in one way or the other, in always there?

By many he is already considered as one of the best of all time. Even Niki Lauda is starting to praise him, one of the biggest critics of Alonso, and is constantly saying that Alonso is the best driver (maybe in few months he will add "of all time" to it).
I personally am very impressed by his driving and i cant remember a comparable act of skills. not even ms in his best days was comparable to him, especially in the days when ferrari was not that good.

Alonso in trouble the few last laps.

"Then, with seven laps to go, I suddenly lost grip at the rear: I asked the team if something was broken because the handling of the car changed from one moment to the next, for no apparent reason," he added pointing out that his attack which allowed him to close in to within a second of the Williams was neutralised.

"I informed the team some corners after to check if everything is OK because maybe we lost some aerodynamic part of the front wing or under the floor or something," he explained. "So, from that point the last seven laps, it was monitoring the distance and the gap with Kimi (Raikkonen)."

So they were secretly tailoring the F10 to Alonso's liking by having him sneaking into Maranello in between his Renault driving duties? Cause 2010 was pretty much the same story.

Many people points out this fact but, would you be able to describe in which was the F2012 suits Alonso driving style more than Massa's? I can't really see it. This is kind of a topic sentence: "Ferrari works for Alonso, that's why Massa is underperforming" (which sounds to me like if Massa was driving a worse Ferrari or only in three wheels...) but there are very little facts to support that idea in terms of speed and race pace.

To me it really looks like a smooth and right on the edge lap... no mistakes, no corrections, but using every cm of the track, really awesome. To me it looks like even better lap than that of last year qualy which he said was a perfect lap. And it doesn't look that bad under traction, hopefully that's good news for Monaco!

It must be me then, but I see him making little corrections in every corner.

Just watch any of last year's laps from Vettel and you will see what a smooth lap is...

And what do you expect? Making a car less Alonso-friendly so Massa can score say... 5 points?

I think many here should "also" thank Ferrari pit crew if you look at what is happening to other teams and how many seconds they lose whenever they decide to pit, or outsmart themselves with stupid strategies(hello Lotus and McLaren).

Alonso has done so far what it is expected from a driver of his calibre, but he is making the difference because his team has been miles ahead(strategy, pit stop) compare to the rest this year and focused 110% on him..

Massa? Ferrari don't waste their time trying to "find" a solution to his balance issues and are looking for the performance. McLaren is doing the exact opposite to please both drivers and IMO they are wasting their time.

Good job Fernando  If he(and the team) continue like this, he could win the WDC.

That lap of Alonso's looked quite smooth to me as well. Agreed it is not quite on the same level as some of Vettels laps last year but that was in the RB7 with the blown diffuser.

I saw some of Maldonado's q2 lap I think it was and that looked a lot more wild and yet he still got a great time in that session.

I think it's just the opposite they are helping him as much as they can, the fact that he can't get the results is more than anything all on him and also a little bad luck.

I'm talking about the direction the team decide to take with the development. Or you want to suggest that they spend 50% of their time during Practice sessions to help MAS?

do you remember who got more days at the Mugello testing?

That's just about right, given his preference to oversteer and longer steering ratios. The car looked pretty solid, good acceleration out of the corners, etc - it's just you have to be really brave to get the most out of it, as opposed to a more refined packages, such as RB7 last year.

Could you imagine Alonso on the RB7? The superiority-boredom would be so huge that he might do mistakes like Senna in Monaco in '88
