Spectacular! Thank Gods it doesn't have any pretentious diamond bull**** on it like worn by Hamilton and Kimi in the past. Not sure if Vettel also did the cringeworthy act of "Mr Diamonds" ?

And Fernando, 2007... he is included in the pretentious diamond bull**** list.

Steinmetz has been a sponsor of McLaren in Monaco Grand Prix many times.
Other drivers included are at least Jenson, Heikki and JPM.

I wonder if he will use that visor in the race? I guess it could be bad if he's used to a neutral transparent visor?

White/transparent visor = dark conditions
Orange/red visor = changeable conditions
Blue/dark visor = sunny conditions

That how cycling glasses visors (and I guess any other) are meant to be used.

Nice looking helmet. Love the red visor treatment.

I don't think that having the cheap sunglasses attached to the top will be good aerodynamically during the race! :)

I wonder how many championships Alonso wouldv won if he and Mclaren stayed on good terms. 2007, 2008, 2010?

All McLaren drivers, including Alonso in '07, have had diamonds since '05 I think. It's a sponsorship deal with Steinmetz, so targetting the drivers with your criticism is a touch unfair I would say.

Strangely enough, my first impression from FAs new Monaco design was that it was very Kimi-esque.

I'd forgotten about 2007 and must admit that if it was a sponsor thing then you acan't blame the drivers for having to wear diamonds :well: Good that probably every driver wouldn't choose to if it wasn't for sponsors.Well maybe except for Lewis and Rosberg

excuse my incompetence, but i looked at this helmet from left to right, up and down, and i didn't find anything that even remotly resembles any helmet kimi has worn..

Alonso said yesterday that his aim for the next 3 races is to get 50 points, he must be very confident in his skills driving in street circuits (with good reasons of course) or there is something good coming from the team starting with Canada. Let's hope he has a great weekend in Monaco!.

I like his calculations. Nobody on the grid so far has scored 50 points in 3 consecutive races, that's how he thinks. (Hamilton 45, Vettel 43)

Both sides made mistakes, both sides paid heavily for it. In that sense, I reckon the score is about even.

Anyway, this is probably for the the Nostalgia forum. :D

Ok, is it me, or does Button still seem to be discounting Alonso as a championship threat? Aren't there TWO leaders tied on 61 points, and didn't one of them finish 2nd a couple of weeks ago? I know Button said Alonso wasn't a championship factor after his Malaysia win, which was a bit insulting, but it seems the order of competitiveness has changed and Jenson hasn't woken up to that yet.

In the end, I suppose it doesn't really matter if he doesn't view Fernando as a threat, particluarly given their current WDC positions, but it does seem a bit odd and deliberate.

"When different people keep winning and the championship leader finishes fifth it is not such a problem," he said. "To be fair I've only finished three races in the points, and the last one wasn't really in the points.

"I've had a first, a second and a ninth, and that puts me 16 points off the lead, which is nothing. It is amazing how little points everyone is getting this year.

"I think there have been 125 points up for grabs and the leader has 61. So it shows you how mixed up this season is..."

For the record, last year Alonso was 2nd in FP1, 1st in FP2 and FP3 but then he qualified 4th...

But I have a feeling that it will be better this year...

You're reading way too much between the lines. In the first sentence he was talking about Vettel, who was the championship leader but didn't score many points in Spain. He's not saying anything wrong.

Also in Malaysia nobody knew this season would turn out to be this unpredictable, it seemed like a one-off while in Melbourne Mclaren/Red Bull were definitely ahead of Ferrari and this formed his opinion back then.

Nobody can predict the future, I'm pretty sure Jenson has Fernando in high regard.

Jenson said that because the F2012 was very bad and everyone knew it, what he didn't expect was Fernando to do wonders with it.

Now it's turning out to be a bit more competitive, I guess McLaren and RedBull are scared of Ferrari and Alonso right now "oh no, he's back..." :rotfl:

Sure they do. But up until Bahrain Ferrari was consistently about a second off-pace from McLaren in the dry. In any other season that would mean their drivers have no chance for the championship. That this season is turning out to be a bit different is no reason to attack Jenson for his comments (also here), because nobody could predict this.

Maybe chosen just because it's a beautiful pic- and rightly so.

But it also commemorates one of the most important F1 Ferrari wins ever!
And it's nice to see John -who left the Scuderia amidst a lot of fuss in 1966- honored this way.
