Some nice words from Grosjean :)

"Fernando in Monaco is always something special," Grosjean said. "They have a pretty good car now."

More words of praise for Alonso's driving from Ross Brawn:

"You see Fernando [Alonso] who is at the front of the championship, and he has not had a great car this year, but because of what he is, he has managed to get there. Nico [Rosberg] in last three races has scored almost as many points as anyone - so you have to look at it over more races."

Very nice words from Ross but Sebastian has scored 2 more points than Nico (Seb 10-25-8, Nico 25-10-6)

Right, so was just doing my homework, but I need a bit of help here...

Obviously Fernando is the only driver on the current grid to have won races with 3 teams...but dunno how he compares to past drivers...

He's won Malaysia and Italy (and Germany but under different race names) with 3 teams, but Monaco is the elusive one I think..he's had chances the last couple of years to make 3 teams at Monaco..

What about past drivers...maybe senna given he won races with 3 teams? Anyone else?

Would be amazing if Fernando could make it 3 in his time at Ferrari...and of course he's still the only driver to win Singapore in 2 separate teams...only vettel could change that as of yet, and he's not likely to move for a while..

Don't believe Senna won with 3 teams.... Lotus & McLaren. The only drivers in relative recent history that I can recall instantly winning in 3 teams is Prost (Williams, McLaren & Renault), Piquet (Brabham, Williams & Bennetton), Berger (Bennetton, Ferrari & McLaren - in fact he won on each of his 5 spells with these teams) & Lauda (Ferrari, Brabham & McLaren).

I think there isn't a driver who's won Monaco with 3 different cars, but remain open to persuasion that I've forgotten someone. Schumacher has the chance (very slim) so him & Alonso could seal that deal this weekend.

Nice stats, but just to quickly correct you that Prost won with 4 teams - Renault, McLaren, Williams, and Ferrari in 1990. Must be some kind of record?

Yes good spot, I missed that one (only recalled the shambles of 1991).

It's not that likely imo that many drivers pre-80's would have driven with any success for more than 2 or 3 teams, the reasons being: Not as many manufacturers, appalling reliability, fewer races & of course much shorter careers - often for terrible reasons.

I would say Prost is the leader in that category, though it's also probably fair to say he left on less than ideal terms from all those teams (make of that what you will!) but that's another thread discussion I think.

FA is obviously the most likely to get the Monaco hat-trick in different teams this weekend, it could be a shootout between him, KR & LH... should be fun! Maybe his best chance could well be if it rains.

Well technically yes but Honda become Brawn, Same team of people but under a different name. I suppose it does count but with Fernando it's a lot clearer

I'd like nothing more than to see a Ferrari/Alonso win this coming weekend. I witnessed Niki's win in 1975 and Gilles win in 1981. Fernando winning this weekend would be a real treat.

Two epic wins - Alonso would fit well into this line of succession.

It just shows what a big Heart Alonso has to embrace his not-so-good-looking fans equally as with the better looking girls!
That's the kind of guy he is and he doesn't have the lack of confidence to worry about how his public image may be affected posing with unattractive girls that are his fans.He loves all his fans.Let's see other drivers do that because they all have unattractive female fans.....aswell as attractive ones.

No doubt there will be more pics with some stunners too.

Fernando sounds confident ahead of the Grand Prix. So did Rivola! Let's go make history, boys! http://www1.skysport...s-it-s-up-to-us

"If we have a good race here then the points for the championship will be welcome, and if we dream a little more and we think about the victory, we'll be extremely happy.

"That's because Ferrari has not won for many years in Monaco, and personally because I would become the only driver to win here with three different teams.

"I'm sure this will happen anyway, if not this year, then given my long-term contract with Ferrari, sometime in the future."

I find it surprising that no driver has won Monaco in 3 different teams, but going through the records it's indeed true.Only Button and Schumacher can beat Alonso to acheive that feat of 3 wins in 3 different teams at Monaco on Sunday.Vettel,Kimi,Lewis and Webber are the only other winners at Monaco. Each with a single win.

Good luck to Fernando although he may not need it being so adept at driving around Monaco, aswell as the significant improvements to his Ferrari in being strong at every circuit. How strong those improvements are is still the Question, but we know that even without the overall fastest car that he creates his own great chance to win with superb driving in every way.

I don't know if it was the maximun possible today but the strategy seems a little weird for Q3 in my opinion, anyway, 5th, clean side of the track thanks to Michael penalty and everything is possible for the race but he needs some luck to do something great.

I'm not sure what he means with getting closer. Certainly looked closer 2 weeks ago. I thought he had a shot at pole before realizing he wasn't cruising through Q1 and Q2 and genuinely struggled to get the better of Massa today.

Sure Barcelona fitted the car better, it isn't a traction track and also had high speed corners, where Ferrari is good at.

Monaco is a traction + mechanical grip + low speed downforce track, so it's good to see both Ferraris into Q3. It IS a step forward

In Barcelona, he did say that Ferrari may have over-performed during qualifying, with some of the top runners making mistakes. Maybe that what he meant when he says that they are getting closer.

What´s the point with #ALOamigas on Alonso´s twitter ? After 10 years in F1 we all know he has many female and MALE fans, he acts like a teenanger.

It's his manager's idea (Abad). I guess there's some kind of PR thing behind it and it makes the website more 'creative'. At least it was a ww trending topic on Twitter for a while.

From a realistic stance, what could happen tomorrow in normal race conditions:

- Fernando, starting on the clean side, overtakes Grosjean at the start
- he follows Hamilton close, like last year
- and maybe manages to overtake him (or Rosberg) thanks to the strategy, which was good here last year and is generally good in 2012
- Vettel does a good race, as usual, 5th at the flag.

Possible result: 3rd behind Webber and, let's say, Hamilton.

Rankings exemple after the race:

1. Alonso 76
2. Webber 73
3. Hamilton 72
4. Vettel 71

Anyway, I think he will lead the championship tomorrow night ;)

He means exactly what he said. They're getting closer. The team didn't expect to qualify on pole, only fans of the team who read too much into free practice as usual did. The fact remains is that Ferrari are indeed getting closer to the leaders. In Montmelo they made a good step forward and they have continued in Monaco. Both cars in Q3 is also a step forward, regardless it's clear the car has improved. The team can get a good result here in Monaco and then there are updates in Canada that should bring another step forward.

It is a reaction to all those stories about him having a girlfriend that make the rounds on the internet as soon as some jornalist posts a pic of Alonso with one or another model.

The idea is to show tons of pics of Alonso with girls, to ridiculise those stories - that's why they don't do male fans! ;)

From my recollection, there was certainly a shooting war in 2007. How much of that was personal animus between them or due to instigation from others within McLaren, not sure we'll ever know.

It is a reaction to all those stories about him having a girlfriend that make the rounds on the internet as soon as some jornalist posts a pic of Alonso with one or another model.

The idea is to show tons of pics of Alonso with girls, to ridiculise those stories - that's why they don't do male fans! ;)

Yep...I got it, but thanks anyway for the explanation. I don´t know if it helps Fernando to get rid of all untrue girlfriend stories ? Media is media and they want readers, and it´s more news papers/news websites in this world than it is Alonso with a female fan on a photo. ;)

Over to racing...I think today's race (MonacoGP) could be very crucial in the driver's championship and the rest of the season for Fernando. I cross my fingers for as many points as possible. Canada GP is usually not a big shot for Fernando, I only remember mostly problems for him on that track.

Fernando's camp is simply trying to say something to his fans - "don't believe everything you see reported".
