If you like watching top cars and drivers in a really relaxed atmosphere and from very close quarters, Mallory Park is the place to be...........

Every Wednesday morning is General Testing where anything and everything usually turns up, today saw an ex De Angelis Lotus, ex Nilsson JPS Lotus, ex Stewart Elf Tyrrell, ex Lammers Samson Shadow, ex Ribieiro F2 March BMW F2, ex Patrese Ragno Arrows plus FF1600's, Historic FF2000's and other assorted saloon cars.

Also, in the past few weeks, Mike Wilds has tested an FW06 and FW07 Williams plus an ex Ronnie Peterson March 761 plus Simon Hadfield is a regular attendee with an overflowing toybox......

Its much better than seeing cars lying in a museum!

Also, an open invitation goes out to any TNF'ers that would like to watch a session from high up in the Control Tower in the warm and dry, please come and say hello! :)

Are these guys turning out at Mallory because of the demise of Donington. I am aware that a lot of the Historic Formula One guys go mid-week testing whenever they can and sometimes turn up with the cars and drivers from the Masters series because the cars are similar. I would love to go to these test days but work gets in the way!! Abba Kogan drives in both series and owns some lovely cars. He is a Matra devotee and has also got a Williams or two and a couple of Arrows. The drivers are very friendly too and that makes these test days a whole lot more enjoyable. I can`t wait for the first wekend of July and Brands Hatch!! Meanwhile, if I am passing Mallory I may just drop in - cheers for the tip-off....KM

Kogan's cars are run by Colin Bennett. Kubota is renting the Fw07c and Abba is driving the FW06 until his Ligier JS17 is ready. He pranged the Williams at Silverstone and borrowed an Arrows for the weekend.

The Williams are both the Kogan owned cars run by Colin Bennett and the March is the Kubota owned ex-Peterson Museum Monza winning March 761, also run by Bennett. Mike Wilds has been driving Williams (& other cars) for Colin for about 25 years.

I had dinner with him on the evening after his outing in the FW07 and he enjoyed himself no end and was making some quick times too.

Well he should know the car by now; Colin ran Mike in an FW07C as long ago as 1983!

Giraffe, I may be wrong on this one, but I believe Abba`s Ligiers are all prepared by Liaz Jakhara and his men at Zul Racing in Derby. I cannot wait to see the JS17 on the grid again. Abba has a real soft spot for the Ligier cars and they are always a crowd pleaser when he gets one of them out. There is currently one of Abba`s Ligiers in the collection at Donington. Colin Bennett seems to be pretty busy right now with all the cars he`s preparing - he might need more than one full pit at Brands if he carries on at this rate!!!

Colin's only got the Williams (& Kubota's March). He was working out of the Malkie's place at Antrobus (Chevron Racing) but I'm not sure if he's still there given the GR8 production that must require quite alot of space at the moment?

Good to his word, Wayne / Gatmo welcomed me to the control tower on a distinctly chilly morning! Pullman99/Ian had seemingly taken an extended coffee break at work and put in an appearance too! Didn't see tyrrellp346/Arron tho'??? A few random images from this morning....

Nice to meet Giraffe this morning, yes it was cold but the usual eclectic mix of machinery kept everybody entertained :)

For any closet bike fans lurking on here, ex JPS Norton factory rider Steve Spray was reunited with his awesome 1990 rotary 588 superbike this afternoon, i'd forgotten how good it sounded....

Btw, the driver of the Walter Wolf ex Ickx car today was Joe Twyman.

Great pictures from Mallory Park Giraffe, thanks for posting them and it makes me want to be in Hockenheim later this month. Alas, I have just had open wallet surgery and am in the process of fitting a new kitchen in my humble abode!! Will definately be at Brands for the Superprix meeting in July though!!!

The Surtees TS20 is usually driven by Anthony Hancock, but he was parked up the pit road, so I can't confirm if it was him under the helmet.

This is so irritating- every time I visit Caterham Midlands- two miles from circut- I call in to see what is going on at Mallory. At least 15 visits over last few years and all I've seen is a bloke mowing grass....And not with an F1 car..

What particular gripe did you have about the guy cutting the grass? Too long, too short, too fast, too slow? I never knew i had an audience......

We have stuff on track on 5 days per week, every Saturday/Sunday/Wednesday and usually Thursday and Friday if that helps.
