Good to meet Cyril and Wayne yesterday and great to see Mallory Park is still going strong. My first visit in nearly 20 years and although a few trees have disappeared and some more modern buildings have replaced the ageing race control complex it still retains the friendly feel it always had :)

Does that mean that nobody shot at you this time?
That's got to be a tale worth sharing with everybody.

I have it on good authority that all being well, there will be a newly restored and very well known Lotus 30 out for testing on Wednesday morning at Mallory.

.....and a few not so goods! ;)

Again dependent on the weather, Simon Hadfield will be bringing down the Keegan March 743, and a rather nice Elva MK8 (that IIRC Mrs.Hadfield is possibly going to race soon???)

This nice Lotus had a long wait on the jacks as a crew member had to travel all the way to Daventry to get the wheels balanced, due to their small spindle size.

DOH ! DOH !

I'm at a total loss . I recalibrated the display, even went as far as dusting and cleaning the screen !! All the colours from ALL the images on this forum show "true". Thinking through everything I've done today I think there is something happening between me to ImageShack to forum.
I will up load a shot of the Elva that I will make so red in Lightroom that Stevie Wonder will know its there and see what that looks like to you all.
As I said to Tony today it is better to know.
Thank you all for your input.

Well then ! Just uploaded the redist red I could realistically produce.
It left me in red but arrived at ImageShack ---- Brown - even on my screen !?? On further inspection of 'MyImages' at ImageShack all red's are brown even earlier ones.
Bizarrely it displays red on my screen. This is far beyond my knowledge level on these machines.
Please make any useful suggestions at pleb level .
Thank you

Until I sort this will Black and White suffice ? HP5 of course not XP1

I don't know if this is any help or not, but on my screen, in addition to your reds coming out very brown, your (darker) blues always come out a bit purple. Good luck in sorting it out. :)

And finally, this chap's crew left alot to be desired. Here he is just about to depart for the final session, but the they had forgotten about the chocks. Seconds later, one spat out as he left, and the other shot up and wedged somewhere in the internals! The crew went running after him like the Keystone Cops, and the fastest of them managed to make a shortcut, and thankfully stopped him before he hit the track! :drunk:

S**t happens. I've started a couple of races with foreign objects in the car. In one, ironically at Mallory, something was rolling around my feet. A short time later a can of Coke went bang as I braked for the hairpin

Wayne told me that they've had everything but the kitchen sink fall out of cars and off bikes onto the track, including on one memorable occasion £800 in reddies from a racesuit, of which every last £ was recovered!!!

I did a Metro race at Oulton, circa 1990, and there was a fault with the extinguisher plumbing. It was a Rover guest car and the series scrutineer said he'd give me a ticket so long as I carried a hand-held extinguisher on board. He arranged this for me and installed it beneath my seat, where it stayed until I braked for Lodge on my out lap during qualifying. The moral? Don't brake for Lodge, I guess.

It took a couple of laps for me to kick it to the nearside footwell, where it clattered and banged for the balance of of the session. I discarded it for the race and nobody bothered checking...

The Arrows probably was driven by Phil Hall. It had turned up at Brands Hatch 2 weeks ago but failed to run because of gearbox gremlins in practice/qualifying. Ian Simmonds` Tyrrell also run by Accurate Racing had problems aswell and the team left on Saturday night to concentrate on future meetings. Maybe the appearance at Mallory is part of their preparations for the said meeting(s) they are prepping for. The Arrows and Tyrrell look good in the same pit (Bennetton and Warsteiner livery) so lets hope they get things sorted....KM

The scrutineers at Mallory weren't too concerned about the baby seat in the back of a Prod Saloon but requested the driver remove the sleeping baby from seat before practice :)

I sent this pic to a friend yesterday, he is quite the old-skool motohead.

Here was his response less than 30 minutes after I sent it to him:

A vintage Honda 350 roadrace bike with a custom built brazed frame made of Reynolds 531 tubing, and with a custom built exhaust system, and with electronic ignition, and with a magnesium Lockheed brake caliper up front, with Works Performance inverted gas shocks in the rear, with twin Dellorto pumper carburetors, with Tarozzi rearset footpegs, with a custom built box section swingarm, with custom built triple clamps holding reworked Yamaha 35 mm forks, the and wheels are built with high flange aluminum Akront 18 inch rims, the rear hub is stock Honda and the front hub looks to be off of a 70's Triumph. The cylinder head was probably reworked by a guy out near Chicago who is an expert with Honda heads.
The bike is not being raced in the photo, it is being tested. The fairing and belly pan are missing as are number plates.

That's about all I can tell you about that bike at first glance. I've never seen that bike before.

I do know that he was a motorcycle mechanic for a long time, and has a massive interest in historic motorcycles. He has a number of motorcycle projects in various states of repair (probably 5 project bikes right now) ... he is a virtual walking encyclopedia of things moto.

I think he did some racing, but I'm not totally sure and will ask him.

Just a warning to anyone considering making a journey to Mallory Park this coming Wednesday. There is a dedicated test day for the Silverstone Classic at Silverstone on Thursday & I would hazard a guess that yer Hall & Halls & Hadfields will be heading off for that in all likelyhood.
