If you look at all the crash photos and then look at my shot of the car leaving on the trailer (post #962), it seems that all that deformation of the roll-bar was caused by nothing more solid than the springy turf of Mallory. Now that does make you think!

The weight of half of an American Steelworks probably didn't help much.

I'm glad to hear he got out pretty well unscathed but sad to think of the wreck he's had to take home.

Yes but no.
What the photo's don't show was the real violence of the impacts and the distance from impact to rest - but yes I was suprised by that too.

The Corvette shunt was a biggie, we were all relieved to see the occupant get out quickly plus the barrier took the impact well and everything was retained circuit side which is of course the intention. Just such a shame that the car picked up such a lot of damage.

I'll give you all some concrete information regarding winter testing dates but numbers do tend to drop off considerably as the weeks move on into autumn and beyond so we'll see what happens.

I have got an idea up my sleeve for a TNF "Autumn Gathering" which depending on numbers may be possible to pull off on a Wednesday. I'll do some spadework and report back sometime soon..........;)

It was a pleasure to see Tony and Cyril again yesterday, and to meet Phil Rainford, Peter Taylor and oscrivello Tony.

And Wayne, of course! Sorry Wayne, you slipped my mind 'cos you weren't on ground level.

It would be fascinating to see a contemporary F1 car being driven in anger by a top driver around Mallory. I have a feeling that, despite their prodigious acceleration, a current F1 car would be flat everywhere apart from Shaws (just like Class B Clubmans in the seventies...)

Like most competition cars of almost any era, they are easy to drive but not easy to drive fast. However judging by last Wednesday morning's incident, if they ever came to Mallory you'd need to station an incident crew in Leicester for recovery.

Corvette pilot Phil Keen finished a respectable 7th of the 27 starters in yesterday's Glover Trophy race at Goodwood. The general consensus is that something gave way causing Phil to crash and I drew his attention to the two amazing sequences of photo's posted on this thread by Phil and Andy. I also told him that we were all relieved to see him emerge unscathed, and he thanked us for that. I must admit he seemed pretty unaffected by the accident and a tad bemused by my approach!
With many teams having left for Spa, it may be a rather quiet Wednesday by recent standards this week; doubtless Wayne will update us. Weather forcast looks very good indeed however.........

It was nice to see oscrivello / Tony at Mallory again, enjoying the morning in his previously pictured Batmobile / Corvette!
Phil Rainford (PAR) was there too and dissapeared out onto the circuit so expect some of his spectacular action shots in due course (though everything stayed on terra-firma this week!)

We also had another welcome visit from Mike Wilds in the ex-Brian Henton March 782-10 which is owned by Abba Cogan. Run by Colin Bennett & his boys, they were debuting it with it's brand new BMW unit replacing the Ford it has been running lately.
