Richard Dean. Mallory Park 1984.

Tony Dean's ex mechanic posts on TNF but I can't remember his name

Guilty as charged, my lord.

Albeit only for a short time, I did Brands, Zolder and maybe a couple of others with Tony's Chevron. That is how I met the late great Derek Bennett, a wonderful talent. But we digress.

For sure these pictures are tremendous, please keep them coming, if I were able to be there myself I would be every Wednesday! Great memories of that track and many connections since I also worked for Chris Meek. I was lucky to have had drivers like Russell Wood win in FF, Tony Brise win in F3, Chris in Saloons and Rupert Keegan in Aurora. In fact Mallory may have been my first race with the boys from P&M Racing in the late 60's, I loved the place.

Best to all, Brian

Possibly "difficult" day this coming Wednesday (15th June) but anyone got any info if anything ultra-interesting is running?

I might take a trip up the A46 next week. Havn't been there since I was testing the 220 Turbo in 2001...

Anyone know of any events on the following weekend that might bring out particular cars? Or conversely might mean a lean week?

With the season now well under way I would think it will be hit and miss over the next few weeks as to who or what is there.
I can't make next week so maybe PAR has a call in the area ?

The first weekend of July is Goodwood FOS and the HSCC Superprix (my choice!!) at Brands. It may welll be that the cars will be given some track time over the next couple of weeks at Mallory or Donington in readiness. Brands is host to HFO, GpC, HF2, Salooons, F5000 so it will be a busy twp weeks....

A fairly (well, very actually) quiet morning at Mallory today. Did I upset anyone?!

A couple of intersting cars were there however.

This is the ex-works Sunbean Tiger Le Mans car

And.. sounding lovely. The BRM P261 that owner Richard Attwood will be taking up the hill at Goodwood the weekend after next. Looked absolutely stunning. This was described to me as the car that Jackie Stewart crashed at Spa in 1966 which would make it 2617. Anyone have any ideas if this is correct.

I'll try and be there next week too as it's the last session prior to the FOS so you never know what might turn up. A Lotus 56 would be nice!

It's one of the 3 original Lister built le Mans '64 cars, now apparently needing strange non-original ducts on the bonnet, not in period IIRC, only 180B having the forward facing air intake later. The function of the seemingly reversed NACA ducts is interesting. More retro-engineering?

Maybe I prefer this one to the P25 - Mark Konig had one of these at North Street, I nearly fainted when I saw it - OK, that's an exaggeration, but I had never seen such a beautiful machine that close before.

Hi Stve,

Mr Lund has beaten me to the answer. Last saw this car at Donington for the VSCC See Red event a few weeks ago and seems to have been fitted with a new alloy bonnet but I didn't take the opportunity to find out more.

Would that be the BRM he used as the basis of the 2 Litre MK2 Nomad sports racer and was later re-assembeld and sold on once the Nomad had it's Ford V6 lump fitted?

The Harrington car looked more like the road version when viewed from the rear, Steve, albeit with a sloping 'fastback' roof, but retaining the original tail fins. It was painted a paler, almond green not unlike the Yeoman Credit/BRP colours.

And it was an Alpine & not a Tiger. TNFer John Ruston owned this car, but I'm not sure if it went in his recent clearout.

According to the BRM 'bible' Volume 3, #2617 was written of JYS's Spa accident and the wreckage was scrapped.

DCN has posted previously on another thread:

And oh yes again - '2617' of course has been replicated today and is the number adopted by the Dickie Attwood/Mike Ostroumoff Historic racing 'BRM P261'.

Thanks for the Harrington info' although it has confused me, although all I will say is, someone I once worked for had a Harrington bodied Sunbeam that he insisted was ex Le Mans and further insisted was a Tiger. At the time it wasn't a car of much interest to me, so I didn't look, but I can't say I am surprised.....................................

I suspect a bit of confusion there: the Harrington Alpine was a catalogued model, the full title being Sunbeam Harrington Le Mans...

I'm amazed that none of the Mallory 'locals' have got in ahead of me to post about today's assembly - where are you Giraffe/Cyrilmac/Pullman99? - However, in spite of Phil Rainford, Alan Raine and me leaving mid-afternoon and stopping off for a pint or two at one of Roger Clark's local hostelries, I appear to be the first on here.

Splendid day with a fabulous turnout of Super and Special Saloons and Modsports

Saloon stars included Vince Woodman with his Broadspeed GA Capri (BFC 002), Pete Stevens with his ex-Cleland Vauxhall Carlton Thundersaloon (on track fo rthe first time in 18 years), Tony Hazelwood who came to support his DAF V8, Peter Baldwin with his Mini, while Joe Ward brought along Baby Bertha and Dave Taylor the ex-Mick Hill Beetle and Pat Thomas was on hand with his Kelvedon Motors modsports Elan. There were many others, details of whom will probably be vouchsafed by other posters.

Aside from the saloon/modsports section, the turnout was a trifle thin, but this Lancia D50 was there and Rob Hall took turns in Matra MS80 and Wolf WR1.

The turn out Special Saloons and Modsports yesterday bodes well for the CSCC plans for some proper races in the near future. Not only were many cars running, but they seemed pretty reliable as well. Well done chaps!

Joe Ward's Baby Bertha was immaculate as ever.
Posted Image

Dave Teley and the Stars & Strips Opel Manta (...note to Gatmo. Can you move the wheely bins at the end of the pitlane. They spoil the photos :) )
Posted Image

The Matra MS80 was beautiful.
Posted Image

The Lancia repro seemed wrongly geared for the hairpin, always taking a wide line, but booting it on the way out!
Posted Image

I don't remember seeing this sort of Corvette amongst the Special Saloons and Modsports of the 70's, but who cares, it looked and sounded good :)
Posted Image

Cooper (...note to Gatmo. Perhaps it's time for a new flag!).
Posted Image

There were some quick bikes out in the afternoon :)

The Cooper in Alan's pic is F2-28-57, the ex-Alec Mildren car previously owned and raced for some years by Richard Longes and now run by Malcolm Cook. He couldn't explain why it was in Rob Walker livery.
