I enjoyed wearing another drivers helmet for about 5 minutes, untill all the other cars piled in meaning the passenger ride cars couldn't get to me and it was game over for passenger rides :(

Bugger!

I looked at that, and no I don't think it's the original motor.

I remember Peter Day's Mini which had the half BDA in it. In fact I remember it very well as it cartwheeled towards me along the top of the Silverstone sleepers, at which point I ran like hell

Peter was alright, but the steering was poking through where the windscreen had been. The Fiat was built after that :)

Yes, Swiftune Mini engine. Probably a 1380? had a straightcut box anyway.

And hello back! You caught it on one of the few moments when it wasn't weeing out coolant or having a brake fire :)

A few issues to sort before the race I think... Plus, I can't feel my hands because I spent so long smacking the calipers on the tarmac in the paddock (sorry Mallory)...

You did seem a little nervous braking for the hairpin. Not surprising if you were having brake issues.

Good. I can post at last!!

It was good to meet up with a few TNFers last Wednesday. It was the third time I had been to Mallory testing on a Wednesday and was very enjoyable. I have been going to races at Mallory since 1967 so it has many happy memories. Just have to master uploading pictures now.

Just a bit! No feel, locked at the slightest touch, mostly seized... Nearly had a full-on fire when back in the paddock - hence not appearing in the group photos!

The Ferrari is actually a 412P owned by Harry Leventis and run by Tim Samways Sporting & Historic Cars / Engineering Ltd. They refer to it as a P3 however.
It featured in this thread one year ago.

Thanks for reply - apologies if I'm going over old ground and I don't know all the personalities involved - but am I right in thinking it was a genuine P3 run by the factory in Europe which was converted to 412P for America then re-converted back to a P3 by David Piper ?

Whatever it's history, to my mind the best looking sportscar ever. Does it sound as good as it looks ?

As baseball star Joe Namuth once said when asked what he thought of Astroturf, "I don't know, I've never smoked it......"

Our American cousins may have something to say there

(Joseph William "Joe" Namath nicknamed "Broadway Joe" or "Joe Willie", is a former American football quarterback for the New York Jets, and the man that introduced white football boots to the sport) mind you, he probably still never smoked Astro-Turf, it tends to melt when you set fire to it!)

The Astroturf quote is also attributed to baseball pitcher Tug McGraw.
