Ref the March. Peter Meyrick usually drives it but Andy was driving this week at Nurburgring  . Rob Austin had his Surtees in Campari colours  (driving as Brett Lunger), Katsu had the Lotus out :smoking: (wearing Ronnie P`s helmet) and Scott Walker drove the McLaren M23 :drunk: (James Hunt helmet). This was all in aid of Ron Howard`s forthcoming movie loosely based on the Hunt/Lauda story of the mid 70s :) .
The March will be running with #1 because Peter is the current HFO Champion  . Andy usually drives one of the six  Ragno liveried Arrows cars in Historic F1 races. The standard joke is that there are now more Ragno cars than Arrows ever made  but there were two years maybe three of Ragno sponsored cars so that expalins why so many exist- I hope  ...

Anyone got a pointer to some more pics from the Nurburgring meeting please?

The programm says Luciano Quaggia and the 'team' was Fernicors F1. That car was also out at the Hockenheim Historic earlier this year. I got some shots from then as well (I think).

It IS Luciano Quaggia in the ex Rosberg Theodore. A very nice man who races mainly at the mainland Europe events, Luciano tends to get mixed in with the Delane Tyrrell, Sayles Ossella and others at the rear of the field. The car is always well turned out and I am sure I have never seen more than 2 mechanics work on it!! The Historic F1 website has more F1 pictures from the weekend.. www.historicformulaone.com

My other-half should be posting some pictures online soon for all to see. I'll post a link on here when they are available.

In the meantime, I'm somewhat stumped as to what this car is. I've my suspicions what it might be (TVR Grantura Mk III), but I'll wait and see if these are correct...

Spirit of the 70s ! IIRC Graham Hill's 2-car team in 1975 consisted of something like 1 dedicated mechanic per car with another floating between them as required, the designer, the team manager, plus Bette on the timing.
I think RIAL had a 9-member team in the late 1980s . How times change, that's probabaly not enough to fire-up a modern F1 engine :drunk:

I always thought the motorhomes are like the Transformers. You push one button and BANG you get a 5 storey building with a underground garage and a garden. :rotfl:

Indeed - how times change :drunk: . Sometime HFO Champ Rodrigo Gallegeo has turned up at Brands with a long wheelbase Transit towing a 20 foot box trailer, last time 3 years ago  . Puts some of todays F1 teams to shame when we see them turning up at Mallory with an F1 car in or on a trailer and just get on with the job in hand  . It still makes me smile when you hear of todays younger mechanics popping into the Historic garages to see how it`s really done :p (not a single laptop in sight!!)

According to the official results Peter drove the 761 at the 'Ring (as #1 in practice and #9 in the race)

Correct Rob  , Peter was the driver last weekend. Him and Andy do swap from time to time but they all do, Katsu has 3 cars to race that I know of. Abba Kogan has loads of cars aswell. The official racing photographer`s website always has some excellent shots of the meetings  .

Peter and Andy Meyrick are both very quick drivers. Dad Peter is a very tough gentleman racer with a very strong competitive streak. Peter's son Andy is a really nice guy who would be much better known now if he hadn't suffered a freak illness in the year in which he was dominating his class in F3

Mallory seems to have taken the entire year's output from Bridgestone; not sure that it add to the ambiance.
Shame about the Armco .... and the roll-over bar... too.

OT: what happened actually to TVR?

A rather sad story. In 2004 the company was bought by 24-year-old Nikolay Smolensky, a Russian national. Sadly he proved not to be another Roman Abramovich and his grandiose plans actually amounted to splitting TVR up into four separate companies and closing the Blackpool factory in 2006. Since then, TVR has gone into administration, been bought back from the receivers by Smolensky, who has made various announcements claiming that production is to re-start, without anything actually happening. The most recent announcement was in June this year. TVR's new website: http://www.tvr.co.uk/ gives full details of the marque's future.

That sounds quite likely - not many 24 year-olds would have the wherewithal to buy a car company, even such a small one as TVR.

A rather brisk morning at Mallory with plenty of customary autumnal sunshine, and a fairly thin turnout compared with the same week last year. Nevertheless, I was not alone......

The Formula Junior Brabham of Chris Drake pictured above that photo.

The only FJ cars Siffert drove were Loti...and the Brabham he raced was a BT11 with a BRM engine, which I guess makes it an F1 car.

It's new owner was having his first run in it, but unfortunately it broke a driveshaft at the end of the morning. He was using the kerbs on occasions.

I made it along on Wednesday for an hour or so. Nowhere near as many cars out as normal, but still enjoyable.

Whilst the weather - as ever - was glorious, I do feel the place has been rather decimated with all the tree removals and earthworks. Looking up the incline to the hairpin from the Esses I'm sure the circuit direction / layout has changed slightly, but that may of course be an optical illusion with all the run off areas in place these days. Or just my fading memory.

A couple of very interesting cars were out. The first, an almost fully restored Group 6 Gropa-BMW, with Mr Hadfield charging round in his usual manner. Not sure whether this was an early Chevron-based version or a later Gropa. Irrespective, it sounded good and will look nice when the paint job is done I'm sure.

Posted Image

This glorious NART Ferrari was also out, being driven in some style by a Mr I Flux, at one point blasting out of the pit lane to rejoin a session - much to the amusement of his crew. Marvellous!

Apologies for the quality of the pictures, taken on my BlackBerry. I can't even edit them properly for some reason. :(
