Good to meet you Giraffe.
Going well in the Eleven with the newly rebuilt FWB until a driveshaft let go.

Lovely photos Giraffe.

First time I've sat in the '41 since Monaco last year, and the first time I've sat in any racing car since I shunted an Aston at Donington in June, so was feeling a little bit rusty - 60 laps later and I think my arms are about to drop off...

See you next time,

Gareth

Always great to see you and that great little 41, a car that I first saw in GLTL livery in 1968 for John Miles (possibly a 41X?)

A heads up for this Wednesday in case anyone is interested.

I can't be at Mallory as I won't be in the UK but we are shaking down the 6 wheel Tyrrell P34-2 after a total restoration. If it all goes ok I plan to race it at Portimao next weekend.

Joe will also shake down the ex-Bruce McLaren Cooper T51 as we've had overheating problems the last 2 outings at Silverstone Classic and Spa. Lets hope it is sorted as it is also due out at Portimao.

Thanks for the info Roger. I'll hopefully will be there. With a bit of luck the weather in rural Leicestershire will be as warm and dry as Portugal...but I doubt it :)

I have just spent a fair amount of money on some new glass to attach it to my camera.

All you lucky people will see its results this Wednesday or it itself if you are there. I have to say, I don't think my arms are going to enjoy this.

Is it one of those big white monstrosities that all the "pros" use Matthew?;)

Should be worth taking it as I understand the Hadfield crew are bringing out Bob Tabor's Lotus' 48 & 21 in addition to Roger Wills' Tyrrell & Cooper (weather permitting).

An interesting morning with some impressive machinery on display although at times the place was silent with the odd TNF's there waiting for a car to appear on circuit.

I'm still getting to grips with my bigger lens and am struggling to make it work consistently. The light was a bit weird today as well.

I didn't arrive until just before eleven thanks to a meeting starting nearly an hour late earlier in Leicester. Once I'd changed...ah well.

The Tyrrells looked quite superb, the colour of the 002 in the paddock sunshine was startling. Absolutely beautiful - worth the effort just for that. So nice to hear the unsilenced engines as well at Mallory.

Bumped into alansart for all of five seconds  and Giraffe had already gone. A lovely hour and a half though!

My new lens arrived 5 minutes before leaving the house this morning after a long battle with Amazon and City link and was first opened at the circuit in my car. It was all trial and error and as tony said to me walking up to the hairpin "it is what you call, hit the ground running" and I couldn't agree more. But first impressions are good and it is going to be a learning curve.

I had a proper go when the bikes came out!

Linked from facebook so quality is down.

See you all next week!

At the moment I'm a bit disappointed with it. I'm struggling to get it to focus consistently. The Auto focus is unreliable and the Manual focus seems to keep adjusting itself without me touching it. Matt (thebullet) made an interesting comment that he may have to re-adjust his camera settings for his new lens. Perhaps I need to do the same.

Anyway a few more.

This pretty Alfa trundled around for much of the morning.

I can't help with it's authenticity, but it looked quite smart with it's shiny polished Ally bodywork.

My new one is a Olympus Zuiko 70-300mm, 1:4-5.6 zoom.

Nothing expensive, but I'm surprised it behaves so differently to the 40-150mm I've been using up to now.

Yes, I was aware of something worthwhile as I walked to the entrance - on the simple basis that the noise was terrific! Wish I had arrived earlier. The Williams was throwing out smoke, especially as it went into Devil's Elbow, but it was so much faster (when it was running well) than the six-wheeler. Interesting.

Anyhow, a question for Gatmo (and thanks for letting us all know about this wonderful diversion): how many more sessions are left this year?

Possibly 2, maybe 3 test days left as i think last week October/first week November has been mentioned as a cut off for this season, with the usual pre Boxing Day run out slated to appear subject to Jack Frost etc.....
