Hi

has there been an GP in Australia in 1957?
When exactly and where did it take place?
Did Jack Forrest participate?
And was that on a BMW?
And what kind of BMW was that?

Sorry, lots of silly questions maybe but I simply like to know!
Thank You very much!

Lothar,

Am away from files so can't tell you anything about an Australian GP in 1957, but Jack Forrest did have a BMW RS54 (Rennsport) solo at one time. I recall an English motorcycle magazine article about Pip Harris (the English sidecar racer) in which he said that the only way he (Pip) could get a Rennsport engine for his outfit was to purchase a complete machine from someone. So he bought Forrest's. Hope this helps a bit.

In those times the Australian Grand Prix was held at Bathurst, but of course wasn't a world championship round. Jack Forrest did indeed have a BMW R54, and if 7okai comes on and spots this, I'd reckon he'll be able to tell us how Jack came to have one, as his old man's got a memory like a steel trap.
As an aside, Forrest's Elbow at Bathurst is named after Jack, who had a big crash there one year, I think on a Norton.
