Northern Irelands most famous sidecar racer sadly passed away last night following a long battle against cancer.
Lowry was the oldest rider to ever win a TT race (49) when partenered by Pat Cushnahan they won in 1986 and then again in 1987. He was also a multible Irish champion , and Scottich champion in the 1980,s . He was a real gent and very highly regarded in the sidecar paddocks and will be sadly missed .

Anyone who ever attended any of the race meetings on the Northern Ireland scene in the late seventies will never forget the thrilling entertainment provided by Lowry Burton, not forgetting his arch rival Wallace Coates. Even for those who weren't fans of "the chairs" these guys had some epic encounters.

Thanks for the memories Lowry, R.I.P.

I remember Lowry too though I didn't realize his career spanned so long. Sad to hear of his passing. RIP Lowry.

Nice photo , allmost sure that was at silverstone sidecar GP maybe 1986 or 1987, passenger was Geoff Leich. think they finished 15th, prob the only conventional outfit in that race as most were on "long wheelbase " outfits.
