I also thought Doornbos raced there in 2003, but I could be wrong - again I'm struggling to find a Le Mans archive with a full drivers index.

In a recent interview http://f1.gpupdate.n...obert-doornbos/ Robert mentioned that he likes to do Le Mans in one of the coming years: "I've driven at Monaco and the Indy 500.... then Le Mans should be there as well." Quite in the spirit of this thread :D

And indeed, he did drive in Le Mans in 2003, but not in the 24 hours ;)

Lucian Bianchi is close - bumped at Indy, same with Pedro Rodriguez though he has Daytona 500, Le Mans and F1 which is fairly unusual

Chuck Daigh, Bob Bondurant and Richie Ginther are missing Indy despite being American.

Bob Bondurant passed the rookietest with an #88 Eagle-Ford, subsequently he failed to qualify in a #33 Lola-Offy.

Never raced in F1.

I'm just idly wondering how many of those have done all three in the same year. A small and select group, I'd have thought. OTTOMH:

Alberto Ascari (1952)
Dan Gurney (1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967)
Graham Hill (1966)
Mark Donohue (1971)

Any more?

Watching the Monaco GP just now I seem to remember the original 'Triple Crown' was Monte Carlo, Indy and Le Mans making the exclusive list of those who competed in all three in the same year even more exclusive

Dan Gurney down to (1962, 1963, 1964, 1967)
Graham Hill (1966)

The Triple Crown is what anyone wants to say it is - it's never been an official title

If you go to the site, and click on the race number of each race entry, there are lots of photos:

I've found out all sorts of things because of this thread. It amazes me that Roger Penske never ran the Indy 500 as a driver - I'd have put money on him doing it at some point!

I could be more interesting — oh, and easier, too — to limit 'F1' to 'Monaco Grand Prix' and thus look at drivers who have raced in the Indianapolis 500, the 24 Heures du Mans, and the Grand Prix de Monaco.

For starters, Wikipedia has a list of winners of two or more of these classic races: the 'Triple Crown of Motorsport'.

But entirely revisionist. Le Mans became unchallenged as THE sportscar race of the year only after the disappearance of the Mille Miglia, and to some extent the Targa Florio, and the Monaco GP has only relatively recently become THE F1 race of the year. Even the Indianapolis 500 took a while to shake off possible challengers to its position from the likes of the American Grand Prize and Elgin Road Race.

So those three specific events cannot really be regarded as any relevant sort of 'Triple Crown' before 1976 (with the disappearance of the proper Nürburgring)

I can see a rational for the Monaco GP Indy 500 and Le Mans, they are respectively the slowest (and tightest) fastest and longest (excluding Marathon de la Route) circuit races, alternatively they are (or certainly were) the big three glamour races.

Funnily I came on here just now to start this exact topic ! Well almost, I was looking for Monaco, Indy and Le Mans which excludes a few above that didn't run Monaco.

up to date one - Justin Wilson

Also Tomas Enge

I am interested in a similar list of drivers who have competed in the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500, 24 Hours of Le Mans and at Daytona in either the Daytona 500 or 24 Hour race.

So the list gets shorter.

Mario Andretti
Michael Andretti
Jack Brabham
Eddie Cheever
Derek Daly
Mark Donohue
Masten Gregory
Dan Gurney
Denny Hulme
Peter Revson
Jochen Rindt
Danny Sullivan

And need some help...

I do know that Jim Clark and Graham Hill never competed in the Daytona 500 or Daytona 24 hours. Richie Ginther and Phil Hill never competed in the Indy 500.
