Does anyone out there have any photos to display of the ex-Border Reviers ex-Le Mans dark blue Aston Martin DBR1 (Reg. No. FSH 360) when it was owned and raced by Cardiff's Charles Sgonina at Llandow in South Wales in the late 60s and early 70s. From time-to-time, Charles would allow John Davies to race his very famous car and, with very wide but highly non-original Borrani rear wheels, it was driven rapidly and with considerable verve by the aforementioned Mr. Davies. When Charles was racing, things progressed at a more leisurely pace as befits the venerable gentleman that Charles was. He was, after all, well into his 60s, if not 70s, at the time.

I don't have a photo but I do have the programme for the 1967 AMOC meeting at Silverstone when I was competing against John Davies in the DBR1. Well I say competing, but in practice he was 12 seconds a lap quicker than my Nash !

I have three Box Brownie prints of this car taken at Llandow c 1967/68. In addition you might like to refer to "Autosport" July 24th 1964. [ I also have copy] .See report of South Wales A.C. sprint Llandow. There is a picture and caption of Charles Sgonina driving the DBR1.

This was the car in action at Charterhall not long before Border Reivers sold it to Roy Salvadori who presumably sold it on. The car today is in Dr Fred Simeone's amazing collection in Philadelphia . It has been returned to its original 1959 configuration and is finished in the proper Aston Martin colour.

I saw the car DBR1/3 yesterday at Dr. Simeone's Museum.

These photos are from Sept 26, 2009 when it was run during one of the Demo Days at the museum.

DBR1/3 is in the Simeone foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, as Mr. Gauld was kind enough to mention. I would like to add that the Museum (www.simeonemuseum.org) is open to the public and features one of the finest collections of racing sports cars in the world. In addition to having the cars on display in dioramas representing the races where they competed, we also take cars from the collection out onto our 3-acre lot for "Demonstration Days." You may enjoy this short video of the event last year where we recreated the 1958 racing season, pairing our DBR1 against our Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa:

If you are ever in the Phila. area, please stop by. We're open every day except Monday and do the Demonstration Days once a month. The complete schedule is on our Web site.

Is this the John Scott-Davies we were all searching for over a Lotus 19?

This appears to be the main thread on John Scott-Davies:

When you say searched - do you mean at Revs?

I'm working hard on tagging the archive, as are others, so I'll see what I can do re Lotus 19.

I know it was something which was important to me as I was looking for Bill de Selincourt's cars for his 90th birthday celebration, but Lotus 19 964 was last known to have been in Scott-Davies hands and disappeared without trace. IF it is the same man then perhaps we might find out what became of it.

OK, can you give some clues - like what years we are looking at and likely tracks?

(BTW I have just tagged some photos of Graham Hill driving a Lotus 19 which should hit the Revs search engine soon.)

I checked with Bill and he sold the car to Phil Scragg in 1964, thereafter it was (by anecdote) with John Scott-Davies. There is some unconfirmed talk of it going to Terry Buffum but I think Buffum's cars were accounted for and did not include 964.
