Dave won the 82/83 Series on his Roberts "thingy" indeed

wg did win in 84 and 85, Andrew Johnson im positive broke his ankle in either the 1st or 2nd leg of the first round in 84, calder i think, and im sure he retired after that.

campbell was in contact with dowson and gardner coming out of the final corner at oran park[yamaha corner?] in the wet race he won in 85. wg was suffering real grip problems and the v3 just kept getting drive.

rob m was a real joy to watch on the footage of the oran race in 85, almost mesmerising the way he could get the rg to go from apex to apex.

am i correct that rob phillis rode the gs 750/1000 in the 84 event which i believe started out as a 750 in a 400 frame?

Johnson crashed out of the lead at the second round at Oran Park in '84, on the approach to the bridge late in the race. I think it was in the 2nd leg (Glen Milddlemiss went on to take the win). I too don't think he raced again, but perhaps he was planning/hoping to return for the '85 series before pulling the pin?

Mate I thought I was referring to the person who started this thread by saying "the OP". I am not fluent in internet speak sorry. Yes as Stu pointed out Dave did win the '83 series which I simply didn't know. He was a rider I always thought would bag an IOM TT win.

No problemo, I'm a novice as well. I wasn't biting.

I have old photos from 70 to about 84 but posting seems beyond me... G.

does anyone remember anything about the 86 series, i remeber reading at the time that magee got lawsons yzr500. did he win?
86 must have been the last year of the gp bikes as all the superbike pics are from 87.

From my dark and distant past I was mechanic at that time for Simon Buckmaster..
we came out for the Swann series in 86 with Rob Mac on his gp bike, Kev Magee was indeed given a yzr for the series and if I remember correctly Dowson had the new 1000 genesis proddy bike that was pretty quick.
The co ordinator for the series was Barry Smith he might be a good contact to chat to if anyone knows where he is these days.

I may have a pic of Bucko on his 3 cyl honda in the series somewhere if anyone wants it posted
