It looks good, James.  Are you planning a debut appearance at Baskerville in October?  I expect to be taking the 600 down to Tasmania for that meeting.

Thanks Paul, we're trying to keep her as "period appropriate' as we can!

Ron's repainting the 300 and a Mono bodywork set  red  and aiming to get  both cars down to the Motorsport Expo at Princes Wharf on 23/4 August that the Baskerville Foundation and Historic Racing Car Club of Tasmania are supporting - the Mono might get a run at Baskerville, but I'd rather have a run around Symmons to begin with.....

I think you should bring them both to Baskerville in red, James, so that we can have an all Elfin red line up of 100, 300 and 600!!

We've got the red body work fitted, pinned on, painted & once the mirror stalks are rechromed she'll begin to look presentable.

Original Mk 16 Cosworth motor is now the number two motor - it's going back together at a leisurely pace!

Rods and Pistons are a bit chunkier than in the "new" one!

James, I was at Jamie Larner's the other week...

He had a reproduction Twink head there and it really did look the duck's guts!

Excellent, there are some good "new" ones out there, I'm not sure whether there's more than one crowd actually pouring the castings, but some of the finished heads are set up to run the cams direct into the head (sans cam bearings) - I imagine that's no problem, but all the same, I'd like to see cam bearings as part of the instillation!  (Although, with ACL's problems, are the bearings still as rare as hens teeth??)

Running the cams in the heads is okay, with bearings as a repair if it goes sour...

They come with more room for safe porting, too.

OMG, I don't know about twink heads being legal for historics.  As a matter of fact I wonder what CAMs is doing trying to dabble in Twink heads.

It took the fifth page of Google to see any reasonable reference to twink heads. :drunk:

Regards

To my way of thinking, the fact that they can be extended further in the ports makes them ineligble for Group N...

But not for racing or sports cars. The reason for this is that the original heads, if broken through, could legally be welded up for these cars and there was no reference to production components for their engines.

Gp N which are not historic use historic parts and historic cars can use non historic parts,,,, confusing.

Yep, Bob put that one together with "600" suspension on it apparently - I think it's most apparent on the rear - bulk head and top forward pick up point are "non conformist" - not sure if there's anything unusual about the front.

Finished sealing the tub on 6653 yesterday, next job will be engine assembly.

Hi James,

I've just stripped Mono 6651 down and ready to start the clean up and restoration. I see you've sealed your tub. I presume that's fuel tanks you're talking about. I imagine I'll have to do the same. Can you advise me what material you used to do this.

Thanks, Peter.

PS I'd put in some photos if I could figure out how!!!!

G'day Peter, I'll give you a buzz this weekend if you're available on the blower and divulge a couple of trade secrets!  - happy to post your photos if you wanna email 'em to me!

There's a little bit of Scotland (homage to Jimmy intended) slated to go into 6653, a Caledonian hide is set to be made into a new seat & cockpit liner - I'm just tossing up whether to sew a sheepskin into it instead of foam for the seat - just looking for low volatility components - comments/suggestions are welcome!

Thanks James. I'm away overseas at present so not in phone contact. I'll be back in mid November. I don't appear to have your email address for the photos.

I had a lovely seat made up for the Lotus 41 only to find with my race suit on it was too tight - had to unstitch it and remove the foam. The Mono tub seems equally narrow so don't sew in too much 'comfort'.
