Hi
This is a strange one to ask , But have any of you got any idea when the first quickshifters were used in racing . Would they be available to the public before 1991
What sort of bike used them before this year ??

Any proof of use is appreciated

Chris

You going to put one on the Rottweiler, Chris? :D

Some horrendous prices quoted for them on Evilfray but easy to make one with a kill-switch and a piece of spring-steel strip, I used a cut-dowm 6-in ruler... ;)

Hi Don

It's a small world :p You seem to know me too well. I want to know if quickshifters were available before 1991 because some riders are riding TZ 250 B's at the Manx GP in the Post Classic race and the club have just said quickshifters are not allowed to be used :well: Some people may protest the results if they are used so it would be good to have some proof that quickshifters were on the market before 1991

Thanks Graham i'll give him a try

Hi, Sorry to have only picked up this post today-I am a fairly new member-but I can confirm that Paul Andrews was using a quick shifter on his Kawasaki Pro Stock drag bike in the early eighties. It was pneumatic and had to be charged with a special high pressure pump more often used in bicycle racing. Paul was a colleague of mine at KMUK and went on to be British Champion on the same bike. This type of quick shifter would,of course,be no good for more than a few shifts as the pressure would drop.I also believe it only shifted up the box. After all, thats all that was required when your run was about 10 seconds! Hope this helps,In Sport,Rotrax.
