Let's see...
Patrick Fletcher (though haven't heard from him much lately)
Patrick has been laying low as his job as the manager of the Broadford (Victoria) circuit complex is rapidly coming to an end, as of November 1st this year. His departure will leave a big set of shoes to fill, and what's worse is he's not off to look after us at another circuit, but is retiring : lucky bugger !
Thanks, Patrick.

I've been through the list again and counted 17 NZ expats that we know about, so bearing in mind we're bound to have missed a few, I reckon the total number is probably well over 60.Considering the expats I know about, I'll revise my guesstimate from 20 to 50...

Now I'm REALLY kicking myself I threw away all my old negs when I "left" the sport back in '74. Anyone got any scans of some
old issue of AutoNews, I'd love to see 'em.....

Colin, I lost all my photos from storage when I was in the UK, can't believe you dumped all your stuff. You took some great photos back in the day.

is that colin wilson ..famous photographer..??
I don't know anything about "famous photographer".... more like Allan Dick's side-kick for a few years back in the days of the Tasman Series.
In 1980 I moved to Europe for 15 years - I now draw comics for a living - but have kept up my interest in F1 (and almost all other forms of motorsport, although - insert boring old fart reference here - "it ain't what it used to be" - sigh...)
I can blame Terry Marshall's wonderful "Looking Back" earlier this year for getting the old NZ Motorsport juices flowing again... and now I'm really kicking myself for not hanging on to anything from my own pre-1980 life..... and I'd love to see some scans of some of those old late-60's and early '70's motoring mags I worked on. I kept nothin'.....
Contacted Allan earlier this year, but so far he has neglected to send me anything.... probably got his mind on more important stuff, as I hear he's recently remarried.....
Great to see a few familiar names in here (Hi Peter.....), and wonderful to revive some of those back-in-the-day memories that I'd long though forgotten.....

Live and have worked in Baltimore Md since 1981. Get back to Godzone every 3 yrs or so; keep a Rover P6b in NZ, that is maintained under the excellent care of fellow TFNer. Have a well -raced Sunbeam Tiger in Baltimore, currently undergoing a rotisserie rehab...(when I can fit it in with my house restoration)
Planning to return/retire to NZ in a couple of years

Yep another NZ flightless Kiwi here I am still here ,and doing the same thing I have since the sixties ,must admit the technology has changed but the challenges are still as big, like wise I have been head down ,funny thing I live real close to Mike but we never catch up proves we both must be busyI'm still here - mostly lurking recently as I've had my head down on a couple of books.

Michael - there is a little more of a "claim to fame" than just living here and lurking. You were one of three TNF'ers competing in the same race at Hampton Downs last weekend - you, me and Silicanza.

In fact I noted that nikhil mentions running a Crossle 32F - I wonder if it too was painted in honour of the first winner of the Indy 500!

You will find him on the ozvmx.com forum under the pseudonym Ji Gantor. He hasn't posted for a while, but he'll be lurking. Join up and send him a pm.
No need, I keep in contact with him on a regular basis but thanks.
I started the Queensland Vintage Motorcross Club QVMX from scratch with Michael and was President for the first 5 years.

Historically an F1 fan from early age, was a regular at Levin though mid-60's till it's close, (Jochen Rindt spun and rolled his 49 on the bank in front of me), flag marshalled a bit at Manfield, went to Europe in my early 20's (1977-79) & followed F1, F2, sports cars, and motorbike GP's in Britain & continent (Rouen, Pau, Zandvoort, Nurburgring, Ostereichring, Brands Hatch, Le Mans, Dijon, Paul Ricard, Spa, Monza, Assen, Jarama, + walked around Montjuich Park circuit). Jim Clark, Chris Amon, Jochen Rindt, Ronnie Peterson, and Gilles Villeneuve have been my hero's, Lotus my team (am also partial to Williams & McLaren)
Back in NZ have settled in Chch and now get out to Ruapuna whenever there is an F5000 running. My most fervent current wish or hope is that someone can convince Abba Cogan to bring a Matra MS120 out to the Chris Amon festival nest January. Or a 1969 Ferrari V12. Or both Something with a fruity and sonorous engine note. Please.
I have some super8 movie footage of Peter Stuyvesant Series F5000 racing circa 1974, alas without sound. Includes most of the key NZ runners, + Aussie interlopers. It is hand held and jerky, but perhaps has some 'period' value. Have had it transfered to DVD, but lack the IT nous to 'upload' it.

Like many others I miss the stuff I dumped due to space considerations - the 1960's UK "Motoring News" I dumped in the '70's , and the various local mags and papers I subscribed to in the 1970's likewise gone(including some of McKinney's work). And its a shame many of the colour films and slides from early days have lost their colour or gone spotty(like me, I guess!). But I kept all the books and programmes, and the 'little grey cells' still retain a lot of the things I saw or read. TNF has been a great exercise over the last 18 months or so; long may it continue.

Great to meet Michael and you at Teretonga Park in 2006.

HI. MOTORMOUTH 1 GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU... I D LIKE TO TELL YOU A SECRET....THE SOUTHLAND SPORTS CAR CLUB IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF O.S.C.A..(THE OPEN SALOON CAR ASSN ) AND THE REASON ?? A GROUP FROM CHRISTCHURCH WERE COMPETING AT TERETONGA 40 YEARS AGO. AFTER THE RACES WERE OVER ..WE DECIDED WE COULD NT AFFORD THE 5 DOLLARS TO GO TO THE AFTER RACE DO..WE THOUGHT THAT THE SUPPER WOULD ONLY COMPRISE OF A SAVELOY WRAPPED IN A SLICE OF BREAD ..SO WE STAYED AT THE LOCAL PUB AND INVESTED OUR PETTY CASH IN BEER AND WINE..MANY DRINKS LATER ..WE HAD A BRIGHT IDEA...US DRIVERS SHOULD WRITE UP OUR OWN REGULATIONS..AND..WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE SOUTH ISLAND PROMOTORS.. ARRANGE OUR OWN CHAMPIONSHIP ..WITH A VIEW TO GET MORE LOCAL INTEREST..MORE INTERESTING RACE CARS.. AND BIGGER AND BETTER RACE CARS ON THE GRID..TO MAKE IT MORE MORE WORTHWHILE TO RUN A RACE CAR..INSTEAD OF THE PROMOTORS PAYING BIG MONEY TO BRING A NORTH ISLAND CAR DOWN TO TROUNCE US..SO THERE IT IS..AND THE SERIES IS STILL RUNNING AFTER 40 YEARS..THE CULPRITS IN THE PUB INCLUDED TREVOR CROWE..ALEX DICKIE .. MURRAY ADAMS.. PAUL KIRK.. AND MYSELF......REGARDS TO YOU....(RON MC PHAIL )
Hi Ron, I well remember how OSCA was formed. There actually was the odd sandwich to go with the saveloy/bread thing at the "do"
The aftermatch functions at the WhiteHouse Hotel were usually the best after an OSCA meeting, remember Peter "Effing" Kocis??
