Vince, it was great to meet you at Teretonga too. Have you ever been in another commentary box quite like it?

Vince hi, I remember meeting in that old "box" They are building a brand new tower building, it's even going to have lift for senior codgers like us!

I may qualify too, having lived in New Zealand since 1973. Grew up within reach of Dundrod and the early 50s TT and Ulster Trophy, later Kyalami and the SA GP and Nine-Hours in the late 60s, then the last Levin Tasman and the first and ongoing Mighty Manfeild. I was a journalist and, as a sideline, the Evening Post's motorsport writer until I retired in 2003. If Dave McK remembers me, greetings, young fellow.

Well, here is ours at Mission, B.C., Canada. Three TNFers: me, David Birchall (we do commentary), and Robin Fairservice (who is in timing/scoring). We have asked for an escalator, but haven't got one yet!

Wings and Wheels, Whenuapai 1984 - by coincidence, I came across a few photos yesterday - mostly unidentifiable distant Porsches and production sports, plus Bill Morris(ERA) and Rob Whitehouse(Cooper Bristol) battling it out. Didn't have the right camera with me, sadly, cant even read the numbers to check with programme!

Little did I know that in a few years we would buy a house nearby and have a motor racing circuit within walking distance. For a while, anyway, until the RNZAF or a new Base Commander pulled the plug on it. Very low-key in 1984 compared to W & W events in the later years - no orange cones or big plastic barricades or any of the big-money hoopla - just a few haybales dotted around. Later there were also club events - Historic Racing and Sports, Classic M/Cycle Register, one-make clubs etc.

Won't name your mystery driver, but he wasn't in one of the 17 Ferraris.

David will be gratified to know that there are still in existence at least 3 copies of the March 16 1984 issue of his NZ Motoring News. I went through a few minutes of panic on Tuesday that all of my 1980's copies might have been dumped, but then found them where I had put them several months ago out of the way of the ceiling-plasterers.

We could do with a similar NZ publication now, with the demise of "NZ Speedsport Magazine" (in July), which I thought was invaluable for its coverage of NZ and Aust events. I can't see anything else with the same coverage, either online or in print. Or have I missed something.

Can anyone remember who trakshots photography (Christchurch) was?

I have a sneaking feeling it might have been Colin Wilson of this parish

You're right David..... trakshots was myself and another Christchurch reprobate Gavin Shaw. Who, if memory serves me right, was just back from a sojourn across the Tasman. By 1970 I had moved to Dunedin and was working for Allan Dick, and crediting my pics (for some inexplicable reason) to the name of Moby Deep. Years later I was rather surprised to discover that an Auckland (poster?) company had hijacked the name....

Anyone got some scans of any of my pics from that time? I've got nothin'......

Mention of Bruce Bellis (Daytona Ferrari) and the Coachman reminds me of this morning's Breakfast TV with a piece on this weekend's Lady Wigram Trophy race for F5000s being held at Ruapuna!!!!
the TV reporter was Charlotte Bellis, is she Bruce's daughter?
Also someone mentioned Ned Wilco. He is alive and well restoring classics in Christchurch.

Ditto to Jaffa's comments about the tragic earthquake in NZ. Thoughts are with all the TNF members in Christchurch. Gavin and John Bain's excellent Fazazz store is right in the middle of where the big quake did a horrific amount of damage on Tuesday. Best wishes.

Three posters have checked in in the Paddock Club: Moanaman, Kiwi and klyster. All safe, if a little dishevelled. I know klyster posts in TNF, not sure about the other two, but some of you may know them.

Im from way down south, recognise quite a few names on this thread, Pat Fletcher, would you have been a Steward at teretonga in the late sixties? Ron Mac, yep with OSCA connections thats a sure thing & have to be totally deaf [& blind] to have missed 'motormouth'. Carl Rabbidge came down south to rip up the gravel in my neck o the woods, & I'll always have a mental picture of Mr Leversedge at the Beach Races @ Nelson

Been in Tauranga the last 50 years, grew up at the old Baypark as the parents helped with the speedway track in the middle, even learnt to drive there, aged 12 driving a 56 F100 doing rubbish pick up, was pretty cool!! always remember the Saloons practicing for the up and coming events, Richards, Fahey, Nazer, etc!! spent most of the 80's in California at Laguna Sega and Sears Point, should have stayed, oh well, always back in the USA every year.

Race a dirty old Boss Mustang at Classic events these days!! damn good fun

 The Good News And The Bad News From Christchurch...
The good news is that Matt Cronin (current President of OSCA N.Z. ) is back home in Christchurch,,after his serious race crash
at the recent Timaru race meeting..although still sore and sorry..and still with plaster on..
And now for the bad news..after the terrible earthquake in Christchurch ..a number of Brewerys were badly damaged.therefore
it has become nesessary to RATION BEER in the meantime..until repairs are completed...How bad is that !!
