Does anyone have any period info on the American single seater powered by a Saab 2 stroke engine in the rear. A few ran in SCCA class C and they had their own S class. I am interested in what races and classes they entered, FJ, F3????
Also 6 were sold to a Saab dealer in Switzerland, one was distroyed. Who were the drivers and what races did they run in?
Its a bit of a challenge as they are a bit unknown of over in Europe.

Rich

The first Quantum-Saabs in Switzerland appeared in 1966. They ran in Swiss Championship events in various classes. Usually they were in Formule Libre 0 - 1100 cc, sometimes also in a special FL 0 - 850 cc or "Formula S" class, sometimes they ran together with Formula Vee. At the time, the Swiss championship was a mix of circuit racing, hillclimbs and airfield slaloms.
And now the drivers:
1966: Dölf Rüesch
1967: Dölf Rüesch, Bruno Wernli, Walter Kienzle
1968: Bruno Wernli
1969: Werner Graf, Jean-P. Porret
1970: Reinhard Pfändler, Francis Gimmel, Ruedi Schiess
There were also two one-off entries from people with borrowed cars. In 1966, it was motor sports journalist and author Adriano Cimarosti, and in 1971, the Swiss Quantum story ended in a club slalom with tin top specialist Herbert Kramer .
The only other Saab-engined Monoposto was Jean-P. Porret's Lotus 27 in 1970.

Many thanks, I am trying to find the history of the car I am going to pick up in a months time. It was one of 6 Swiss Quantums that were sponsored by a Saab dealer over there. The guy is going to dig out the cars history for me, so I should find out who the driver was. I dont think it will be that competitive, but it should sound and smoke nice.

The owner at the time was Paul Macci, he was the dealer that owned most of the cars, but I still need to find out who the driver was. When he had finished with the cars he gave them to the drivers. Dave bought it off a guy that had owned it for a long time (In Switzerland), but he was not the original driver. The body work is a blue gel coat, not the normal red that the Quantum was produced in.

A picture of the car in its actual state would probably help to wake up memories. I am in contact with some of the former drivers.

When I pick it up later this month I will post you some photo's. There appears to be a few more floating around in Europe. I wonder if these were the other Swiss team cars?

The owner for 26 years was Charles Gruber, but the car might have been raced by somone else previous to him. I have a photo when I work out how to get it on here. The car is metalic blue with thin red stripes.
