Ah I thought you mean't the Masters series for Historic F1 cars.In the first South African race Christian Danner and Andrea De Cesaris competed under the Team Unipart Banner and carried unipart logos on the rear wing.

I think that in questions about any sponsorships, Guy Edwards name must come up at some point.
He appears to have successfully approached more sponsors than most :-)

Could that be because they were driving the Wolseley without a model name?
Hi Ralph!
Great pic of the Abingdon squad in all its Unipart liveried glory. But I think that the Service car is actually a Morris. The 18/22 series cars retained separate Austin, Morris, and Wolseley identities until rebadged as the Princess with the end of the Wolseley in 1975. But that is definitely a Morris grille.

Howdy Ian,
You might be right, looks like the Morris was available with a Wolseley option nose !
I wonder how I could possibly have forgotten that ?

I have a photo at home somewhere of me sitting in a 191 at the GP in Unipart's huge hospitality tent - they always had one on the inside of Copse every season.
It's possible that it was a one-off for the British GP at Silverstone but there was definitely a link.
Anyone any ideas??

Gregor could it be you were so well looked after your memory is out by a year or two ?

Hi Art - good find and maybe, I'll see if I can dig the photo out and try and age myself!!
My Mother and Step-Father used to be invited every year by the Marketing Director of Unipart (Partick/Paddy somtheing, his surname escapes me at the moment), as his wife had gone to school with my Mother - it used to work really well as my Father would go to the GP on the Friday and Saturday and we would all go on the Sunday - families huh!!

Tony Pond in the Rover on a very short (for him) RAC Rally in 1984.
The number plate on the car sums it up really
Unipart sponsored quite a few Rover rally appearances in 1984 in the UK and Europe- a few examples:
Marc Duez, 1984 Circuit of Ardennes

Colin Malkin, 1984 Circuit of Ireland

Tony Pond, 1984 Manx

Computervision later took over as the main sponsor for Austin Rover's rally programme (the last of the Rover SD1 campaign and the 6R4), though Unipart did sponsor a Metro for Harri Toivonen in 1986

Anyone? Thanks in advance,Ian.Great finds Kevan, never heard of the Lamborghini Grp C project

Anyone remember the 1980's Lamborghini Group C project that never got off the ground? I'd forgotten that Unipart sponsored that one...

IIRC it was the first Metro used in rallycross, and was first seen in public at the 1980 Motor Show, with a competition debut at Lydden the following season, in a silver/red/blue Unipart livery

Obviously the excitement at making my debut in post #65 caused a bit of brain fade as the car I was describing ran at the Salzburgring DRM round not at the Osterreichring! Aplogies,Ian.Unipart sponsorship was seen in rallycross as well- one of the last projects of the old BL Motorsport department at Abingdon in 1980/1 was 'Project Metro- a rallycross Metro built by Safety Devices for Trevor Reeves.

Does that make me a TNF addict ?
IIRC the Tiga had a spin right in front of a couple of C1 cars that were in a hurry at Clearways / Clark Curve, but not in front of the Lancia's which had their own moment elsewhere, does any body else remember the Tiga incident ?

And no, the leading Mini of Paul Gulson is not out of proportion, I simply didn't remove the magazine from the binder to take the photo.

Completely forgotten that Roy Bakers little Tiga GC285 carried Unipart sponsorship at Brands 1K in 1985, but when I saw it I remembered this thread

I think you may be referring to 1988 Ralph. One of the Baker Tigas, the Pink Panther, spun in front of the lead Sauber Merc/Jaguar battle for the lead. Massive incident, it put one Sauber out, and severely delayed the other IIRC. Very spectacular, and amazing that no-one was hurt, driver or spectator. The Tiga carried on after repairs, though it looked a real mess after. A shame cos it spolied the race. I think the Tiga driver was a Yank, one of Roy's rent-a drivers, Stephen Hynes or similar?

That article has a major flaw,, it says that John used the F5000 P76 based engine in the Jag. Untrue it was a Jag V12 engine. A car I have raced against myself. The Australian connection
