In 1983, just after I'd moved to continental Europe, I took the first opportunity to watch racing at the Nurburgring - an F3 meeting in late March or early April. I drove there late on the Saturday evening & headed for the famous old hotel by the startline. As I drove into the car park, my fabulously comfortable Morris Marina got stuck in loose snow. I spent the next half hour digging it out with my hands, in full view of 'herr Receptionist' in his cosy little office, who resolutely refused to step out & help.
When I'd finally managed to park up, I went in, dishevelled & enquired whether he had a room. - "Nein."
Resisting the temptation to throttle him, I slept in my sleeping bag in a nearby 'Restplatz', under some trees & woke up next morning, freezing, thinking I was in the afterlife in some silent white tomb. - It had snowed heavily & completely covered the car!
The race meeting was cancelled & I slithered my way back home.

I think racing round the 'Ring in snow would have been quite some spectacle...

I seem to recall it snowed during the 1000km race at the ring in 1961 or 62. Anyone remember that?

Wow, I love the blue sky against the white ground from this perspective. Yet, most of them seem to handle the snow well. But that's what it takes to be a racer really, keep a cool head in cool times.

Fun? Well, I can admire the fact that they were able to fit umpteen cameras to that car, but I'd have prefered a single one...

So,

My wish is your command, it seems!

Thanks for that - looks like the fun I'd imagined it to be. The front brake bias must have been completely backed off!
I found myself looking for studs in the tyres.

Not a bad driver but I did notice that he drifted a couple of inches wide at Hatzenbach.....

You should've watched the whole video, he managed to make a complete dog's ear... er, pig's ear of the Adenauer Forst section! :)
