How could I have forgotten the Aston powered Cheetah that finished 10th at Spa in 1985 ?
Thanks Alan

Why on earth would anyone want to pay £7,700 for a heap of fibreglass on some scaffolding poles?!?!
Because some one else offered £7,699 for the same heap of fibreglass on some scaffolding poles ?
I also notice from Alan's posting of the full auction results that this abomination is still up for sale........
http://www.classic-a...tion-32705.aspx
I've seen this Quasimodo of 917s with various dealers around Manchester for literally years now.
I take it the 'Evocation' market is a tad sluggish up North then.

Yes, it's been around the block a few times- on and off the Southern Cars pitch and around the kit-car shows "rumoured to have cost well in excess of six figures" so would that be seven figures, or even eight figures? It's a Porsche 914 with a body kit.

Don't forget the variable boost turbos, plumbed nitrous oxide for 'hyper drive' and Damon Hills WDC winning harness to keep you comfy and safe !

"rumoured to have cost well in excess of six figures"
Some licence being taken here with the precise position of the decimal point, I suspect......
I'd love to see it alongside a proper Gulf 917; you know when you went to a club and there was a stunning bird on the dancefloor, but she always had a mate.................

"Reportedly handmade from blueprints" I wonder if they used a photocopy from a very thick book that did not open flat on the copier ?

I think it's a typo and should read "handmade from Blu-Tak""Reportedly handmade from blueprints" I wonder if they used a photocopy from a very thick book that did not open flat on the copier ?

Blueprints maybe, but blueprints of what?

It's funny how people still talk about blueprints. I remember them, just, but they were rapidly vanishing as a type of print from the original drawing when I started work in a drawing office in the mid 60s. Dark blue all over except for the drawn lines in white.

Surely they're "greenprints" in Ireland? (Lines still in white to be sure).

being a bit of a Jaguar fan, if I couldn't run an XKSS on the road I really would like one of these and enjoyed seeing it on the Jaguar Heritage stand.
I'd never seen an XJR15 'in the flesh' before Race Retro so to see two in one day was a most welcome surprise :-)
Is there any significance in the different headlight arrangements ?
I'd like mine delivered with the twin head light arrangement please

I look at it and think that if you did the world a favour and chopped all the crap off, (including a load of the Nos etc) there might be the basis of a nice special under there, especially if it is based on a 914-6, though based on the chassis number I suspect not!
buy a 908 body (approx £5k including screen, I think I saw somewhere) and it could be a fun thing, with a period reg, and Porsche on the paperwork.
Why did they let a blind man make the body?????

"The Monte Carlo Rally celebrates its centenary this year and Race Retro is marking this motoring milestone with a selection of cars from different decades that have competed in this tough event. From 25-27th February, enthusiasts will be able to admire these amazing marques at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry.
Cars that headed to Monte Carlo from different destinations will be displayed, and while some came first overall, some finished further down the table. They represent the way the rally changed – from gentlemen competitors in large pre-war grand tourers, as exemplified by a 1931 Invicta 4.5-litre driven by Donald Healey that started in Stavanger and finished first overall to a replica of the 1953 winning Ford Zephyr Six driven by Maurice Gatsonides.

Did the 1931 Invicta which won the 1931 event driven by Donald Healey appear this year?
I was surprised to hear that the Trophy for that event rests in Australia!
Does anyone have any idea where it might be?

I didn't study the exhibits on the Monte display, but did catch a glimpse of an Invicta in this photo taken from the gallery.Did the 1931 Invicta which won the 1931 event driven by Donald Healey appear this year?
I was taken with this Alfa 8C 2300 2.3 litre s/c Corto Spider Corsa which contrasted with the other exhibit on Jim Stokes' stand, the travel-stained and dented Lancia Aurelia (se post #86)

It was definitely billed as the Donald Healey/Lew Pearce Monte-winning car. I have a very poor photo of it which I'm not going to post ...I didn't study the exhibits on the Monte display, but did catch a glimpse of an Invicta in this photo taken from the gallery.

There were a lot of old farts about, were there not?
We'll meet again but until then, we'll always have Blackburn.

Many thanks for posting these Pete. Yes there were a lot about but at least the crash helmets are great for covering the grey hair.
Jim as competative as ever. I wonder sometimes when he will call it a day. Having said that I am competing on the Manx National in May, so it would appear that I don't have any sense either.

Racing drivers have it even better- they can wear full-face to cover the wrinkles too.
