REALLY wouldn't mind if they fitted the sexy little wing it used to run, though...

Really set it off, I reckon...

Here's one that I'm afraid I can't help but post. (Proud Dad I guess)
No need to introduce the cars but the star drivers are Renae & Nicole (red car)
With thanks to Graham (access to the cars) & Groundsky Photography (image & editing)

Hmm, yes, that school of thought does have a significant following. Wrongly labelled for 42 years! Didn't look properly, Sir!

Got me beat. Possibly all fluids drained for air transport to save weight/cost. Hope they also had a sign elsewhere to prevent inadvertent start-up with "no oil".

In those days all fluids had to be drained.

The great thing about this class was not just the ability of the different looking cars to race closely together lap after lap but also the sound; 7 litre Ford V8, 302 V8, and BDA (or G?), which as pointed out by Eric Thomson in the NZ Herald is what is really missing from all these modern cookie cutter car categories (and I include F1 in that).

Cheers
Lee

Do you have any closeups of that Zephyr. It looks so out of place in that field.

It is either the original, or a pretty good re-creation of a Corvette-engined beast Rod Coppins wrestled around in about 1964-'65. Not terribly aerodynamic, but pretty damn brutal in its' day.

This #2 Zephyr was built around 1980/81 and was driven by Rod Coppins at several events just before he past away, its now owned by John Marslin of Taupo NZ, although out classed its a true representation of the 60's Saloon era here in NZ, and we only have this 60's group for him to race in, he has a very strong following and its great to see it out.

Hats off all round, she's a credit to those involved for honouring a top driver and also a race class that helped to attract kiwi spectators to the races in their droves. What a weapon !

Somewhere on a fairly recent posting on a TNF thread there is a picture of the engine bay of the 2011 Zephyr Corvette. I posted the following 1965 B/W photo of the original on the thread, but I'm damned if I can find it now.
