Correct Alan, although when Martyn Griffiths & James Thomson won their titles the car was fitted with a Hart 4 cylinder rather than the Rover V8.

Is it the same car? I thought the 81 James Thomson car was actually the 1980 Griffiths car, the 'MP40G', and not the '79 car, the 'MP40'. Steve??

Is Ian Callum in the 250SWB the Jaguar designer? I remamber reading that he was a fan of them. if it is him, I wonder if it's his car or he was just driving it for the event?

Yes.
A one-off drive in Peter Neumark's 250GT
He's a delightful guy, modest, amusing and a treat to interview.

The bath plugs are a silly idea- little stones, dog ends and dead beetles can still get into the trumpets and fall inside when the plugs are pulled out. Tennis balls are much better.
I remember someone at Donington had put disposable plastic cups into the trumpets on a Can-Am car and forgot about them when the motor was turned on. You can guess the rest.

I similar story as Silverstone when they had a few Drag Meetings on the Club Straight. One car had tin cans strung together and placed over the ends of the 8 exhaust pipes, which were pointing up at an angle of about 45 degrees. Unfortunately they weren't taken off when the engine was fired up. The string of cans were last seen flying over the Woodcote Grandstands :)

Martyn Griffiths had both MP40 chassis.

MP40-01 which he sold to Rob Turnbull and which was subsequently sold to Ted Williams,

MP40-02 which he sold to Jim Thomson and which James Thomson won the championship in. This is the car that is now owned by Tony & Shirley Tewson.

BTW there was never an MP40G.

So I'm right, Steve? That car, -02, was the 81 winner, but not the 79 winner? And I'm sure it, -02, was referred to as the MP40G in period...

MP40-01 was used by Griffiths to win the 1979 BHC title.

MP40-02 was used by Griffiths in 1980 when he was second behind Chris Cramer & then went to the Thomsons.

BTW which idiot referred to MP40-02 as MP40G?

Not enough effort on the title for 11, Alan?

12. This Ian Stewart? The Stone they didn't want on stage?

I'm not sure I always agree with Duncan's demand for captions. If the photo is good enough...

As he died in 1985 I think the chance that they are one and the same is remote, David :)

That depends on whether this is regarded as a photographers' forum or a nostalgia forum :)
