It is! It is time! It is time to make 'Maldonado to Ferrari' thread!

Had Pastor made a mistake under pressure from Fred, people here would say he did that deliberately to get a Ferrari seat. :rotfl:

Over the moon with that.

Pastor was really impressive. Not even carried away. Almost like 'yeah I won..so? That's why we're here'

Bruno has a tough act to follow

I was really impressed by that, he´s one cool character.

Great race Pastor! Enjoy it - not everyday you get carried on the shoulders of two WDC's

Always was saying that he is fast and a fighter, but today he stepped into another dimension of driving.

Seems that FW made the move of the decade - he got a race winning driver and received $35m for it. 70 years old and he still got it :)

Never in a million years would I have guessed Pastor would win in 2012. Congratulations Williams and Pastor, for converting a pole to a win when may others rated higher have not.

Great stuff  Calm and controlled, fast when he needed to be, brilliant drive.

Found this little article on a Venezuelan website about the celebrations in his hometown, http://www.elunivers...-pastor-maldona

Maracay. - The Triumph of Pastor Maldonado in Spain GP Formula One broke out immediately the excitement of aragüeños, who took to the streets to celebrate caravan of cars carrying and launching rockets in various sectors of Maracay. Amid the horns celebration heard slogans like "Viva Maldonado, Viva the aragüeños, Viva Venezuela, we are Pastor." Also, aragüeños emotion expressed through graffiti on their vehicles. In some managed to read "Maldonado, high in F1," "Pastor pride of Venezuela, Aragua pride", "land of winners Aragua, Pastor in formula one." The governor of Aragua, Rafael Isea, also extended his congratulations to Pastor Maldonado through its official account of the social network Twitter @ Isea_encontacto "Pastor Maldonado! of Aragua in Venezuela! of Venezuela for the World! Aragua land of winners! Bravo champion."

Lovely day, no point rubbing noses in it, just happy I backed him from the start. You do not win the GP2 title for nothing.

Exactly. The guy is finally getting some credit. Just pleased for him.

Incredible performance and Alonso must be mystified how fast Maldonado was in Barcelona. I never expected it but I'm very happy to see Williams in the winner's circle again.

Perhaps a fast, erratic Maldonado could replace a slow, and still erratic Massa in the Ferrari for next year? :p

So no more Perez?

I guess that if Webber wins next race people will say he will go to Ferrari... you're only as good as your last race :stoned:

I've always called Maldonado a "fast idiot". With the idiot part taken out of him, he's just fast.

Not to say he won't slip back into idiocy later in the season but Barcelona was just brilliant.

Let's not forget that Monaco is next. Pastor eats that track for breakfast.

He has a good chance to be the first double winner this season. Who would ever have thought that??? :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:

The problem now is Pastor pays Frank $29 million to race for him, if he wins the WDC, following time honoured Williams tradition he will have to pay Frank $50 million for his seat if Nigel, Damon and Jaques post WDC salary negotiations are anything to go by.

Well I was very critical of him last year, especially on occasions like Spa when he acted like an idiot, but he's done a lot better this year and was absolutely faultless yesterday. Well done to him :)

I think he got a bit harshly judged for Spa actually. There was at least a bit of both of them not doing the right thing, for my money.

Delighted for Pastor, what a man.

He looks like a maniac, get the feeling that every other driver is scared of him when he looks at them.

Has plenty spins and spills, often spectacular.

Always pushes like a fiend and gives no quarter in battles.

And if you annoy him he will put you into the wall for your cheek!

What's not to like about the chap?!

Great to have someone like him there, what a contrast with all the other bores who demand penalties at the drop of a hat!!

Amazing  It's a massive achievement for Pastor. Winning an F1GP puts you in an extremely elite club. Some drivers down the years have lucked in to GP wins due to the faults of others. These wins are still worthy but Pastor led from front and had to fight back with a perfectly executed strategy whilst holding off one of the best F1 drivers of the modern era all race long. It doesn't get much better.

Yupp. It was a well earned victory. He worked for it and kept his composure throughout all the laps. Quite different from other "lucky" Kubica who nabbed a victory from inheritance. However there are other amazing drivers who never won too. But congrats to Pastor and Williams.

Definitely a great and strong drive from Maldonado...defending against Alonso is never that easy.

He had very good composure all throughout the race..never rattled after loosing the position at the start.

Imagine yourself, 2-time WDC (Fernando) behind you and another WDC (Kimi) catching up...he could be in deep trouble if there were 2 more laps.

Congratulations to Venezuela..Hats-off to Pastor! This is a good way of answering those critics talking about pay drivers..maybe that was his way of getting into F1 but he definitely proved that he deserves to be in F1.

Pastor being lifted by the likes of Alonso and Kimi says it all....he found new respect from these guys. Very nice for Kimi and Alonso to extend that respect.

Anyone found a decent picture of Maldonado crossing the line, with the mechanics leaning over the wall? I can't find any bigger than about 600x400, and grainy at that. Got the think there's a hi-res of it somewhere.

He seems so unflappable and calm on the radio and I've never seen such a 'take it in your stride' attitude for a first GP win. I'm really looking forwards to Monaco. He's mighty there. :smoking:

All of Maldonado's detractors based their judgement on the Spa incident. But I never blamed him. His move was straight out of the Senna (Ayrton) playbook. Hmailton had punted him out of a point scoring position at Monte Carlo with Williams in a desperate situation and the repeats the manouvre at the 'Bus Stop' at Spa. Maldonado simply put down a marker that he won't be cowed by the leading drivers.

Completely agree.

The indignation was because people don't like these lowly teams and drivers to assert themselves. They think they should jump into the ditch to let the superstars through.

Top 6 fastest race laps in Spain

1	10	Romain Grosjean	Lotus-Renault	53	15:23:55	194.295	1:26.250
2	9	Kimi Räikkönen	Lotus-Renault	50	15:19:15	192.758	1:26.938
3	5	Fernando Alonso	Ferrari	46	15:13:01	191.761	1:27.390
4	1	Sebastian Vettel	Red Bull Racing-Renault	65	15:42:10	190.935	1:27.768
5	2	Mark Webber	Red Bull Racing-Renault	44	15:11:16	190.741	1:27.857
6	18	Pastor Maldonado	Williams-Renault	26	14:43:01	190.635	1:27.906

No shame in Pastor being 6th but look what lap he set his best time on... lap 26! That's with 2/3 fuel still on board. He obviously could have gone a lot faster towards the end of the race (as those around him did) but decided to manage his tyres instead. Of course it could be that he drove worse towards the end of the race but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and also praise Williams for building a race winning car again and executing a perfect race strategy with Pastor.

Both Lotus pitted much later than Maldonado. Pastor did it on lap 41 while Raikkonen on 48 and Grosjean on 51. So their tyres were much newer and also they didn't had anyone near behind them so they could push as hard as posible because if their tyres suddenly reached the end of their life they wouldn't have anyone close behind them to take their position. Pastor had Alonso close to him so he couldn't afford to push too hard and have problems with his tyres so he backed off quite a bit on that last stint.

Another proof this guy is an idiot. He has shown it in WSbR, in GP2 and now he is showing the same in F1. After his racing with Lewis after chequered flag at Spa, now he says he can't lose time while being lapped, because he is fighting with another car . What a shame he was allowed to race in Belgium...

He has speed, but boy oh boy, he is a moron.

i couldn't help quoting this :D , the irony
