Can anyone point us in direction of detailed info on josef moritz a German who raced an MG at the following events in 1934 Tat Speed Trials in Hungary( he presumably set 4 records), Godollo Mount Harmashater H/C & Driegemarkungs H/C.
Also any other events that he may have competed in in 1935 or later.
I would also be interested in any information on MG's racing in Germany prewar or for that matter any of the European countries.
thanks terry

I can't find any specific references to Josef Moritz, but I'd recommend you get hold of a copy of "The Works MGs" by Mike Allison and Peter Browning. It contains many details of the pre-war european race, rally and hillclimb activities for MG. See also "MG" by Wilson McComb.

Bobby Kohlrausch in 1934 had a J4 and a K3. In 1936 he had MG logo on his transporter(sponsor?) and raced a P type special and a Midget recordcar

Josef Moritz (1896-1937) - or perhaps Möritz - campaigned a K3 Magnette in 1934 and 1935

There were a number of other mid-European MG drivers in the '30s, most notably Bobby Kohlrausch (1904-53) who had good connections with the factory - and also with the ruling political party in Germany at the time. In some years he had three different MGs at his disposal

There were many other '30s MG drivers in Germany, Switzerland and countries further east, eg Freiherr von Münchausen-Windischleuba, Graf von Maltzan, Count Urbann-Emmerich, Hans Rüesch, E G Burggaller, Adolf Brudes, Zdenek and Jiri Pohl, Emil Vorster, Robert Meyer, Karl Becker, H K von Tscharner, Walter von Wustrow, Marcel Hofer, Arno Koch, Theodor Fork, Heinz Krebs, Eugen Stösser, Werner Baümer, Walter Assenheimer, Heinz Mölders, H G Mall, Keller, Wiswedel, Nürnberger, Fisher and Jekabson

Plus - OOTOMH - Eddy Hertzberger and Harry Herkuleyns in Holland, Philippe Maillard-Brune and 'Raph' in France and Raffaele Cecchini in Italy.

Moritz's MG was c/n K3003, the car which Eyston and Lurani used to win the 1100cc class in the 1933 Mille Miglia and Nuvolari the 1933 Tourist Trophy. Over the winter of 1933-4 it was sold to Theo Fork in Germany: he sold it on to Moritz in the summer and according to Mike Hawke he used it in six hillclimbs - at Lückendorf, Freiburg and Feldberg in Germany, Mont Ventoux in France and the Gödöllö and Harmashatar events in Hungary. Plus the Tat Speed Trials.

I'm not sure what the "Driegemarkungs" climb is meant to be, but I suspect it's probably yet another confusing (and misspelled) name coined for Harmashatar/Dreihotter/Dreigrenzen:

Another possibility could perhaps be Dreifaltigkeitsberg in Germany, but that was held on the same day as Lückendorf in 1934.

Again according to Mike Hawke, Moritz was seriously ill in 1935 and sold the car to Eugen Stösser who retained it until 1939.

Josef Möritz, indeed from Munich, also won the class for sidecars up to 1-litre at the 1931 Eifelrennen on Victoria.

The French Motorcycle GP mentioned in Marco's second post refers to the September 17th 1933 1000cc Sidecar event at Montlhéry, which he won on a Victoria: http://racingmemo.fr...%... GP MCF.htm

All this info is great, obviously a few people have "Motor und Sport" and other prewar german items I unfortunately have only one single prewar copy,
Is anyone with a full set of Motor Und Sport say 10M4 to to 1940 interested in going through them in detail for a fee looking for and taking digital photos of any page/article that mentions MG's ie race results articles etc and whilst looking for MG I may as well get someone to look at SS Jaguar at least one SS100 was on display at prewar motorshow and sold in Germany.

Josef Möritz also won the class for sidecars at the 1931 Polish Grand Prix on Victoria.

Perhaps of interest for some: there's a nice book about MGs in Germany, called "Aus Liebe zum Sportwagen", by Halwart Schrader and Hagen Nyncke, that covers also the racing history. AFAIK out of print, but there are currently two on offer at amazon.de.

thanks for that I have chased up a couple of copies on Amazon but having difficulties interpreting the german text to see how to go finalising the deal.
I did make contact with one seller and was surprised at the quoted cost of postage to the UK of 30euros which seemed a little excessive unless it is pretty big and heavy book! which it probably isn't

there is a fair bit about Theodor Fork on the the net not his real name.
Do any readers have a full compliment of prewar german Auto und Sport?
