Hi Sharon, I first knew of Jimmy through his Dad Fred when I learnt to fly at Stapleford. The first time I remember meeting Jim was on a skiing holiday that Mike Trimby use to organise for all the F1 riders each year. My introduction to skiing was standing at the top of a slope with a pair of planks bolted to my feet surrounded by a bunch of lunatics none of whom, as far as I could ascertain had ever had a skiing lesson in there lives. I stood and watched as they all launched themselves down the mountain and as far as I could make out the technique was to crouch down and go as fast as you could in a straight line until you couldn’t go in a straight line any more, whereupon a change of direction accomplished any way possible. This would often involve some sort of a crash more often than not into some poor unsuspecting group who may have inadvertently stopped for a breather. After an apology and straitening yourself out you once again launched yourself in the new chosen direction. Jim was one of these loony bikers along with Steve Parrish, Dave Saltwell, Swanny, Slick (Anthony Balentine) who went on to become Fogertys mechanic, and many others too numerous to mention. I didn’t like the skiing at all the first time I went, the snow was poor, the weather was awful and I tore the ligaments in one of my knees. At the end of the week I threw my hired skis back to the ski hire man and swore I’d never go skiing again. The following year, remembering how good the holiday was with all these nutty bike racers I was cajoled into going again. I bought Jimmys old Fisher skis off him as he was now an expert and had just bought himself a new pair. I fell in love with skiing that second time, the snow was superb, the sun shone every day and the fun was even better than I had remembered it. Jim, Eve and the rest of the bunch were great people to be around, smart, good fun and always up for a laugh. I still see Jim from time to time with his new wife in Brentwood high street. I always say hello and he’s always smiling and polite back to me, but I’m pretty sure he has no idea who I am or where we might have met. It’s sad but good to know he’s still kicking and enjoying life to the best of his abilities with the new lady in his life. Sadly Fred is no longer with us he was a real character too and we also had a lot of great times together. Thanks for the posts they brought back a lot of very happy memories. Loof

out of interest does one one have a picture of the jim wells tunning shop graphic?
Hi Gizzmo0,
I know it's about 6 months too late, but I'm pretty sure i have one on the cases of my old F2 motor, that Jim did - It'll take me a few days to sort it out, but if you still want one I'll post it up ?
I hope Rob's done a good job on your engine - I wonder if that was the other 750 motor he had in when he was doing mine last year ? Any pics of the completed bike yet ?
Danielle - I've got some pics of Jim, but they're from FottoFinders, so probably have copyright, but if you contact Bill Snelling at Fottofinders I'm sure he'll have quite a few of Jim - http://fottofinders.co.uk/

Try this:
Open an account at Photobucket.
Upload your pics to there.
With the pic showing in Photobucket, look on the right side of the screen under "Links to share this photo".
Left click the HTML link (it flashes "copied").
Then on your post, right click and select paste.
The pic will not show, just the HTML gobbledygook, but it should appear when you preview or post it.
Worked for me last time I tried it - good luck!

Hi Gizmo,
Apologies for the long delay in finally posting this, but here's the Jim Wells Tuning graphic. It's a little bit scruffy, but most of it is there The piece of the graphic that has been scraped off is the head of the valve - I'm sure someone could reproduce it on photoshop or similar ?
