In my continuing research for Speedqueens, I have come across a couple of references to a rally driver called Lorna Snow. Does anyone know anything about her? I have seen a picture of her, and heard her mentioned in passing, but never seen her name on an entry list, or in a results list.

She is likely to have been active in the late 1950s and/or early 1960s, and owned and drove a Jaguar XK at some point. She apparently competed on the Monte at least once. Her name is also given as Lorna Doone Snow.

She is puzzling me. Any information, particularly on what rallies she actually drove in, and in what cars, is most welcome.

Hmm ... I have a feeling this is providing more questions than answers, but anyway:

A marriage was announced in The Times on October 26th 1950 between a Mr Samuel Messer of Hendon and Dorland House SW1 and Mrs Lorna Doone Snow of Hogspudding Farm, near Rudgwick in Sussex.

Messer could conceivably be the noted furniture collector. Google denies all knowledge of a Hogspudding Farm near Rudgwick or in Sussex, although there are some photos of a garden in "Hogspudding Farm, Surrey" - Rudgwick is very close to the Surrey border.

Then, a rally result: Mrs Lorna Doone Snow of Rudgwick, driving a Jaguar, took second place in the ladies' class of the 1952 Daily Express Rally - behind the inevitable Sheila van Damm. (The Times Nov 15th 1952)

We then find a Mrs Lorna Doone Snow of Park Street, Mayfair marrying a Mr John Mellis Smith at the Grosvenor Chapel on December 17th 1969. (The Times Dec 18th 1969)

There are references on the net to her being a furrier, which might tie in to the Mayfair address, and she was apparently involved in the creation of the "Golden Healey" in 1958 - a sort of sports car "Docker Daimler":
